There are good opportunities nearby for horse riding, golf, sailing, canoeing, fishing, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting.
Penrith is a short drive away to the north and has excellent shopping choices with five supermarkets, as well as an excellent local produce delicatessen, many arts and crafts shops, a cinema and a variety of restaurants. Within walking distance are two village pubs The Lowther Castle Inn and The Strickland Arms serving good food and a Michelin Star restaurant, Allium nearby in Askham. The Cumbrian towns of Appleby and Kirkby Stephen are again within easy reach and offer a good mix for all including historic buildings, good selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants, and plenty of independent retailers.
