Yewtree House is an impressive Holiday home of considerable size and will comfortably accommodate up to 16 guests, with a large dining table. The house is easily accessible, only 5 minutes drive from the M6 in the village of Tirril, and lies only 3 miles from Ullswater and Pooley Bridge and 3 miles from Penrith. The pub in Tirril is within easy walking distance and provides a restaurant and small shop. Bar meals are served throughout the day. A mile away in Yanwath is another pub restaurant renowned for its cuisine.
Tirril Lodge sits in spacious grounds with views over open countryside to both the front and rear. Activities available locally include pony trekking at Sockbridge and a variety of water sports on Ullswater, including sailing instruction, as well as some of the best fell walking in the Lake District. The house is ideally situated for exploring both the northern and southern lakes and fells. Situated just 2½ miles from the beautiful scenery of Ullswater, you can enjoy a trip around the lake on a steamer and visit the impressive waterfall at Aira Force. A spectacular journey along the shores of Ullswater and over the Kirkstone Pass takes you to Lake Windermere. At the head of Derwentwater and 15 miles from Sockbridge, lies the town of Keswick with its lovely parks and selection of coffee, gift and outdoor shops.

Mark Close Farmhouse, which accommodates 20, is within a 15-20 minute walk from beautiful Alston, with its great pubs, cafés and shops. The town is central in the North Pennines and lies on the borders of Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, referred to as ’England’s last wilderness’, and is also said to be the ’Highest Market Town in England’. The house occupies a fantastic position, central to the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian’s Wall, the Scottish borders and Northumberland’s coast and castles.
The property is set in a large garden bordered by mature trees with panoramic views over green fields and wild fells. In the paddock next door to the Farmhouse, there are five very friendly Alpacas. The area remains unspoiled by large traffic queues or intrusive tourism. The town has a beautiful cobbled street with public houses, mini markets, petrol stations, butchers and bakers.
There is additional accommodation for two adjacent to the Farmhouse - a small fully equipped one bedroom cottage called Mark Close Milking Parlour (ref 25137). Ideal for a couple who would prefer peace and quiet, the Milking Parlour also has a small hot tub suitable for four people at once.
Go for a ride on Alston’s narrow-gauge railway, follow Isaac’s Tea Trail or browse in the excellent gift shops. There’s fishing, riding and golf nearby, as well as Killhope and Nenthead Mining Centres. Follow some of the local ramblers on the Pennine Way. Walk over Crossfell (the highest point in the Pennines) or search for the sources of the four great rivers to which the North Pennines gives rise, the Tyne, the Wear, the Tees and the Eden.
The glorious coast and countryside of Northumberland are within travelling distance as are the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders. There are water sports at Talkin and Keilder Water. Or perhaps some retail therapy in the Metro Centre Gateshead, which is only an hour away, one of Europe’s largest shopping centres with restaurants, multi-screen cinemas, playland and bowling alley. Alternatively, just stay at home and relax in front of the fire and eat together with family or friends in the farmhouse kitchen

The balcony does have horizontal rails so toddler beware but it does have plenty of space and seating for eight guests making it a special place to enjoy alfresco dining on warmer evenings. Built into the hill to take advantage of the lake view, the house is moderately split level, with the huge master bedroom and luxurious en-suite bathroom being situated on the lower ground floor. There is plenty of storage provided for two guests with a wardrobe and drawers. The en-suite is huge and has been finished to a high specification. There are a further two double rooms both with en-suite shower rooms and a further room with a large zip and link bed and family bathroom directly across the hallway. There’s a large garage which can be utilised for cycle storage, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and such like. There’s a washing machine in the garage too, should you need to refresh your towels after a day at the lake.
This property is perfectly placed to enjoy all that Bownesss-on-Windermere has to offer, including some of the Lake District’s finest attractions. Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at the aquarium, or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite. Alternatively, try your hand at sailing and hire your own boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding is also a popular activity on the lake, so if you have one, then it’s certainly worth bringing it along. Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to Beatrix Potter World and the wonderful Art Deco Royalty Cinema. If you’re feeling energetic, so many walks can be found nearby including ’Orrest Head’ in Windermere, a relatively short walk offering spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Some of the Lake District’s fantastic fells are a mere short drive away, as well as the small ’Alpine’ like village of Grasmere, where William Wordsworth is laid to rest at St. Oswald’s Church, and if you’re a fan of Gingerbread, a visit to Grasmere Gingerbread shop is a must! Little Esthwaite Cottage rests on the shores of the majestic Esthwaite Water, in the village of Near Sawrey, which boasts a superb local public house and the National Trust property of Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter. The cottage sits in the original grounds of the house where Beatrix Potter spent her childhood summers and where Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny came into being.
The interior is very well laid out with a well-equipped kitchen/dining room. Two steps up to the separate living room with a wood burner for those cosy evenings. From the living room, doors open onto a private enclosed patio providing views across the fields to Esthwaite Water. There is also a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Outside is a landscaped garden with lawns and mature borders, shared with the adjoining property, where you can admire the breathtaking views towards the Langdale Pikes, Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam and Crinkle Crags. There are walks directly from the property and it is just a short walk across the meadow to the shores of Esthwaite Water, where you can wander along the water’s edge, with trout and pike fishing available. Esthwaite Water is thought to have been Beatrix Potter’s favourite lake and inspired her creation of the character Jeremy Fisher. For bird watchers, an osprey pair have also been spotted fishing regularly at the lake in recent summers.
The cottage is well situated for Tarn Hows and the pretty village of Hawkshead, alternatively you could take the ferry across to Bowness-on-Windermere, where steamers on Lake Windermere run up to Ambleside or down to the steam railway at Lakeside.
Coniston Water, once host to the infamous speed record attempt of Donald Campbell in his craft ‘Bluebird’, is just a short drive. Beach 12 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant within ¼ mile.

Down a quiet leafy lane in beautiful countryside just 2 miles from the shores of Coniston Water, this very spacious and attractive, traditional Lakeland house is set in its own private garden. Built in 1767, it enjoys superb views over Lakeland fells, and has been carefully restored whilst retaining many original features to offer comfortably furnished and well equipped family accommodation. The famous town of Coniston, nestling in the Coniston range of mountains, is just 20 minutes’ drive away. The hamlet of Lowick has a cosy and friendly inn serving excellent food only 500 yards from The Vicarage, with many country inns and excellent restaurants in the surrounding area.
The market town of Ulverston, 5 miles, offers a choice of shops, inns and restaurants, a championship golf course with superb views over Morecambe Bay, an excellent sports complex with swimming-pool and a Laurel and Hardy museum, Stan Laurel was born in the town. Many activities can be enjoyed in the immediate vicinity, including walking on fell, lakeside or mountain, sailing, wind-surfing and canoeing. The shores of Morecambe Bay are just 2½ miles away, where sea fishing is available. At the Grizedale Forest Enterprise Centre, 4 miles, mountain bikes can be hired to cycle along the many forest trails which link the majority of the numerous stone and wood sculptures scattered among the trees. Kendal, the ‘Gateway to the Lakes’, is well worth a visit for its museums, art galleries and pretty cafés and tearooms. The nearby Levens Hall boasts beautifully trimmed topiary gardens as well as a steam-engine collection and café. Lake Windermere 20 minutes’ drive with Bowness a further 10 minutes.
