This is an ideal base for a coastal holiday, and is also close to the south western Lake District Fells and Lakes. The village of Askam has a good range of shops and a railway station, where you can take a trip along the Cumbrian coast and through glorious countryside, with wonderful views. There is an abundance of walks right on the doorstep, whilst Coniston Water is only a 30-minute drive. Grizedale Forest Dalton Animal Park, 4 miles, makes an excellent day out, with a variety of wild animals from around the world. Lake Windermere and many historic houses and gardens easily accessible for days out. If relaxation is your preferred activity why not just sit on the terrace and enjoy the wonderful views. 2 The Old Court House has been converted from the former courthouse and commands a prominent position in the popular town of Silloth. It is an historic building set just off the cobbled promenade, and the cottage has been renovated to a very good standard to provide a fantastic holiday home by the sea. It makes a great base if you’re looking for a coastal escape, and this delightful Victorian seaside town has a lot to offer.
This entire house has a lovely downstairs space with a spacious kitchen/dining room, and a bright living room with French doors opening onto a courtyard. There is a modern shower room on the ground floor and upstairs has a double and single bedroom, as well as a further shower room.
Silloth itself is a hidden gem along the Cumbrian coastline, offering a wealth of attractions and activities year-round. You can enjoy many other attractions and places to visit in the area including the harbour towns of Maryport and Whitehaven, all within easy driving distance. Visit Carlisle, Cockermouth, Keswick and the Northern Lakes, Hadrian’s Wall or even over the border into Scotland. Of course, being in Cumbria, you can easily explore The Lake District National Park, climb the highest mountain in England and take a cruise on many of the famous lakes in the region.

The Lake District, Solway Coast, historic Carlisle and the Scottish Borders with Gretna Green are within easy reach, and Carlisle train station is 15 minutes away. There are lots of beautiful walks on the doorstep, including Hadrian’s Wall a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can explore the history of the wall and its dramatic landscape at over 20 fascinating sites, as well as the coastal path (routes and directions can be provided). Due to its location on the banks of the River Eden and Solway Firth, it is a birdwatchers’ and animal enthusiasts’ paradise. From the garden or your bed you will both see and hear ducks, geese, swans and many other breeds of birds flying up and down the river onto the Solway Firth. Whilst you have the tranquillity at the property you are only minutes by car from the M6 thereby ideally placed to enjoy one of the most beautiful regions in the UK. From here you can not only enjoy the beauty of this area but also a quick drive will take you over the border into Scotland with its miles of dramatic coastline.
Whilst staying at Solway Marsh View explore the many delights of Cumbria, a must is a visit is the beauty of the Lake District National Park with its stunning mountains and lakes. Close by, of course, is the beautiful border city of Carlisle with its 12th-century cathedral and 11th-century castle, it’s a lovely city to explore and of course, great for a spot of retail therapy. If you plan to explore, there are lots of activities right on your doorstep. The South Lakes Safari Zoo is only a 10-minute drive away and is one of Cumbria’s most popular tourist attractions! Ulverston is just a 5-minute drive away, a busy market town inundated with old historic buildings and cobbled streets, and is the start of the 70-mile Cumbrian Way.
You are spoilt for choice on places to explore in the surrounding areas. Barrow-in-Furness is a short drive away, a large town with plenty of shopping, bars, restaurants, cinema and a golf course. Both Walney Island and Newby Bridge are a 20-minute drive away, and at Newby Bridge you’ll find the home of the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake cruises, offering boat rides across England’s largest lake.
Ulverston is a great base for a gateway into the lakes so whether you are planning to enjoy walking a few of the 214 Wainwright fells, cycling the fantastic roads nearby or driving over to many other popular towns around Cumbria including Ambleside, Coniston, Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere, you are spoilt for choice! If you love ’The Lakes’ you’re in easy reach of Bassenthwaite Lake with stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife including red squirrels, buzzards and osprey to the east. Or drive south and you’ll reach Loweswater with connects to Crummock Water and Buttermere, arguably one of the most picturesque areas of Cumbria for breath-taking scenery.

If you like outdoor adventure, including walking, cycling and climbing, you are surrounded by some amazing scenery and you are only a 10-mile drive from the Lake District National Park, your nearest lake is Ennerdale which is regarded as one of the most unspoilt and natural parts of the Lake District. It is teaming with wildlife including buzzards, red squirrels and osprey to name a few. If you want to climb the highest mountain in England you can reach Wasdale Head in just 18 miles, which gives you the shortest route to the summit of Scafell Pike. The patio doors from the living room open out onto a patio area, the perfect place to sit, watch and listen as you take in the many sounds of the neighbouring wildlife. South facing, you will find it hard to pull yourself away from here on a sunny day. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to make a hearty breakfast. Let the dishwasher do all the hard work for you as you head out to start you day. The utility room can take care of those wet, muddy clothes on damper days, and for a good night’s sleep, upstairs there are two comfortable bedrooms, one double and one twin, with sumptuous beds. No need for awkward queues in the morning as there are two shower rooms, one on each floor complete with heated towel rails for cosy warm towels.
Outside is a large mature garden, ideal for your children or the dog to play in, alongside parking for two cars and a bike store. The Coach House (ref UKC64) has been carefully renovated into a lovely cottage with an open plan living space on the first floor, to take advantage of the views across the Solway Firth, famous for its fantastic sunsets. Semi-detached with Grooms Cottage (ref UKC2221), this property has been restored in to a wonderful cottage, adjacent to Holly Lodge (ref 27273), off the large shared parking area.

Holly Lodge (27273) is a detached, spacious, 18th-century country house, and has been thoughtfully furnished to a good standard with a profusion of original features, which have been retained and restored. Whilst all three properties are set in substantial wooded gardens, with formal lawns, an orchard and patio areas, each property has their own private sitting-out area. The whole garden is surrounded by countryside and is very private and secure.
Cockermouth, 8 miles, has coffee shops, restaurants, gastro pubs, shops, cycle hire and art galleries. There are theatres in Keswick, Cockermouth and Whitehaven, all within easy reach and hosting musical and theatrical events all year. The small rural village of Aspatria, 2 miles, also has a small selection of shops. There is a public swimming pool in Cockermouth or you can have your own personal indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and steam room (rented by the hour locally, it is recommended to book early), just 500 yards away from the properties. Fly fishing is available with a trout pond in Gilcrux, 2 miles, and the rivers Ellen in Aspatria, and Derwent in Cockermouth. The beach, lakes and fells are just a 15-minute drive away.
