There are four sumptuously furnished bedrooms, all decorated with your comfort in mind, two of which have beautiful en-suite facilities. There is also a large family bathroom with double sinks, a shower and a roll-top bath.

The first thing to strike you is the beautiful stonework of this detached cottage. You enter into the kitchen/dining area which is well serviced with plenty of cupboards and all the usual appliances you might need. The space is generous and modern. The Village of Kirkby in Furness is quiet and peaceful and set amongst some beautiful scenery with Black Combe hill being the main focus.
The area has huge appeal for walkers and cyclists alike but has plenty more to offer within a 10-mile radius, this includes the local towns of Ulverston and Barrow in Furness for all your shopping needs. There are museums like the Motor museum which is home to the Bluebird collection, or you may prefer ships so the Dock Museum would be more to your taste. For the more adventurous, there is a wide variety of outdoor pursuits such as Heavy horse riding, Ghyll Scrambling, Canoeing, Rock Climbing and Abseiling, or even Segways. The Lake district has an amazing 7 Michelin starred restaurants if food is your passion or for those who prefer more tranquil pursuits, there is a variety of theatres, cinemas, pubs and cafés. Rivendell is a lovely home from home situated in the small hamlet of Beaumont on the Roman Wall walk; the perfect place from which to base yourself to discover and explore this unspoilt area of Cumbria. Rivendell has been refurbished in 2023 and is delightful.
On the ground floor, the large living room is bright and spacious with French doors leading to the garden. Also on the ground floor is the dining room which opens up from the living room, a very well-equipped kitchen with all the mod cons to make your stay here enjoyable, and a cloakroom with toilet. Upstairs there are three bedrooms complemented by super comfy beds and all making the most of the lovely views out towards the Cumbrian fells in the distance. A family bathroom with spa bath and separate shower cubicle are also on the first floor.
Rivendell certainly will make your holiday here in Cumbria memorable. Beaumont is a small hamlet in rural Cumbria just 4 miles west of the historic city of Carlisle and convenient for visits to Scotland, the Lake District National Park, the Solway Plain, the Pennines, Northumbria and of course the historic Hadrian’s Wall Trail is on your doorstep. There are numerous local rural walks and nature reserves in the area, including Watchtree, a great family attraction close by. If cooking is not for you on holiday, take a short stroll to Monkhill and enjoy a meal in a multi-award-winning pub. There are picnic areas close by with views of the River Eden and a children’s play area with zip wire. If you don’t want to explore far from Rivendell, there is plenty to keep you occupied close by.

As soon as you drive up to the front of this spectacular 18th-century house you get a sense of the time gone by, this unique property will wow you with its charming eccentric décor combined with period features but also modern comforts and amenities. Outside the exterior of the property is equally impressive set in an extensive mature garden and has two bridges leading across a large beck to a wooded area full of wildflowers, birds, hedgehogs, and numerous insects. There are nuthatches, tree creepers, herons, an occasional woodpecker as well as all the more common birds.
Peacefully situated just off Lowick village green and with open access to Lowick Common, you can enjoy fantastic walks over the fell to the Beacon with its 360” views of the surrounding mountains and sea. Early morning is the time to spot the roe deer, birds of prey and sometimes the odd hare. The property is within a short drive to the charming village of Coniston, a popular Lake district destination, which offers a selection of independent shops, pubs and cafés, the ideal place to reward yourself with a well-earned rest and drink after conquering the peak of ‘Coniston Old Man’.
Lowick also offers easy access to the market town of Ulverston with its cobbled streets and regular selection of festivals throughout the year, including the popular Dickensian Christmas market and the comedy and music of ‘Another Fine Fest’ which is in tribute to Stan Laurel, half of the timeless comedy duo, Laurel & Hardy, who was born in Ulverston.
This is a great base to explore the South Lakes area, whether that be for walking or cycling (bike and electric bike hire is available next door to Lowick House by visiting www.lakedistrictbikes.com). The South Lakes area has something for everyone whether you’re a family looking for great days out at the Safari Zoo, Go Ape, Escape rooms, Segways, Lakes Aquarium or a group of friends looking for a day at the races, Michelin star restaurants, museums, galleries or simply some great pubs. It’s all within easy reach.

It is evident as soon as you enter Hillside House that it is filled with character and charm. There is room to hang coats and kick off your shoes in the generous hallway. A cosy living room with a bay window, fireplace, comfy seating for eight and a TV with Freesat box is located at the front of the property, an ideal spot to wind down after a day of exploring. The dining room to the rear of the property features antique furniture including a grandfather clock and sideboard, a dining table for eight and an antique fireplace. This makes the room the ideal setting for family gatherings. From here there is direct access to the Lakeland kitchen, which is a mixture of country style and modern conveniences.
The first flight of stairs leads to a spacious bathroom with a full-size bath and an electric shower, and there is also an additional shower room. To the rear of the property is a good-size double bedroom, which features an original fireplace. To the front of the property is a second large double bedroom which features a couple of reading chairs. Lots of natural light is brought in by the large sash windows. Two more flights of stairs lead to two further bedrooms, the first of which is a spacious double overlooking St. Mary’s Church and the fells beyond. Kirkby Lonsdale is a small and relatively unspoilt market town situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Kirkby Lonsdale itself is a historic, quaint market town with a growing reputation for high quality independent shopping, as well as excellent restaurants, cafés and bars. The town is notably home to the 14th century Devil’s Bridge, as well as Ruskin’s View. With so much to see and do in the area, you can choose to keep yourself busy or perhaps simply relax and enjoy the peace and beauty that Kirkby Lonsdale has to offer.
Ingleton, set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is a 20-minute drive away. If you’re feeling energetic, join the famous waterfalls trail or explore the Whitescar Caves. There’s an abundance of pubs, cafés, bars and restaurants there too, including a cosy and quirky microbar. The Lake District National Park and Lancaster are 30 minutes’ away. Beach 13 miles. The wonderfully welcoming owners have furnished the property with total guest comfort in mind and will be there to meet and greet you upon arrival. You will have the personal touch of them being on hand during your stay if you require, available to tailor your visit to your total satisfaction. E-bikes can also be booked before your arrival, by direct arrangement with the owners. The local area has an abundance of pubs, cafes, and a local shop/post office all only a short drive away. Langwathby train station is close by where you can ride the Carlisle to settle route, the cottage is also on the C2C route.
For busy days of exploration walking straight from Cherry Cottage, be sure to visit Lacy’s Caves, a series of five chambers carved out of the sandstone cliff, set along a beautiful walking route with views of the river and a wonderful garden to admire. Just a short walk from the village you can find Long Meg and her daughters, one of the finest stone circles in the north of England- ask the owners for its mythical and mysterious legend! These beautiful attractions can be enjoyed doing a circular walk.
If you are looking for activities to occupy the family, in the next village of Hunsonby there is an outdoor swimming pool open from April to September, and the village of Winskill has a large playground with zip wire to entertain our younger guests.
