Cannondale has been fully refurbished in 2019 to provide a comfortable and stylish haven, four bedrooms with a super kingsize bed (two with zip and link option to be made up into twin bedrooms), all with their own en-suite. One of the bedrooms is found on the ground floor, the ideal option for the less mobile. The large living room offers a generous space and comfort, with a cosy wood burner, large TV and French doors leading out onto the enclosed garden and patio. There is also a spacious open plan kitchen/dining room with French doors also leading out into the garden. There is comfortable space for eight to live and dine together, whilst offering privacy and freedom for everybody in each bedroom.

Situated inbetween Windermere and Bowness, you are just a short walk from either, ideal for enjoying the local shops and eateries or to experience a trip out on Lake Windermere. The property is also ideally located within an easy drive or cycle to one of the many hundreds of walking routes or excursions that are enjoyed in the south Lakes and the Lake District on a daily basis. The owner has thoughtfully provided a dog shower to clean off after your adventures with your four legged friends. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Woodside Cottage has a fabulous open plan living/dining area with a magnificent wood burner taking centre stage of the room. The outdoor terrace enjoys the sun for most of the day and the side door opens straight into the well-equipped spacious kitchen. Upstairs, offers three wonderfully decorated bedrooms and two family bathrooms over two floors. Backbarrow is set in the South Lakes Peninsula and is a perfect gateway to explore many popular attractions, the closest being the Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Take a leisurely train ride into Bowness-on-Windermere and witness the stunning landscape as you go. Guests at Woodside Cottage can also enjoy free membership to the health spa and fitness club in the village during their stay, a 2 minute walk away.
Just a 5-minute drive down the road and you are in Newby Bridge, popular for its fantastic riverside pubs and home to the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake Cruises. Take a wonderful cruse across the largest lake in the UK over to the popular town of Ambleside. If walking is more of what you are looking for then you are spoilt for choice, with 214 Wainwright fells within easy reach you have plenty of options to choose from. There are also an abundance of cycling routes close by or if you want to go further afield, there are many other popular Lake District towns to explore such as Grasmere and Ulverston. Why not head over to Grange-over-Sands or Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, Michelin star restaurant and horse racing. Orrest Howe is situated up the famous Orrest Head walk in Windermere, set in a beautiful woodland garden. You can enjoy sitting out on one of the many seating areas or end your day relaxing in the hot tub whilst taking in the local scenery.

Ramshead Cottage is detached and has a wealth of original features, it’s characterful and welcoming with a cosy country style, and on the doorstep of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The views of the surrounding fields and fells are divine for those beautiful summer mornings, fast forward to winter and you can cosy up in front of the wood burner. The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom is a twin bedroom allowing the option to have double or separate beds. Comfortable seating around the television and wood burner on the ground floor will help you unwind after a long day walking or cycling. There is a large kitchen offering all the amenities you would expect to be able to cook for you and your guests. Wines are available in the property which guests can buy, and the owner will donate £1 per bottle purchased to the Air Ambulance and Cumbrian Mountain Rescue. There is even an outdoor shed ideal for bicycles, canoes or even motorbikes. Known as the gateway to the lakes, you can easily access many popular towns around Cumbria including Ulverston, Ambleside, Coniston, Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere.

Then these are the ones to explore, set on the quieter side of the Western Lake District, you will see fabulous vistas from the tops, taking in Loweswater, the Solway Firth and on a clear day, Scotland! Situated on the very fringe of the Lake District National Park, between Cockermouth and Ennerdale, it offers easy access for walking and cycling routes, as well as arguably some of the most picturesque scenery. Nearby is Cockermouth at just 5 miles away with an abundance of independent shops, coffee shops, restaurants and attractions. There is something for everyone here to make a great holiday. This classic detached timber lodge enjoys an elevated position providing the perfect retreat for couples or an amazing base for a family holiday. The popular Glendowlin Lodge development is a small group of privately owned lodges which offer a peaceful and comfortable stay just 4 miles from Ullswater. There are farmer’s fields adjacent to the rear garden, which is lovely in the warmer months when the sheep are out grazing. From this point, you also have far reaching views of the Lakeland fells over to the West.
The lodge can comfortably sleep up to six guests in three good-sized bedrooms. A kingsize with en-suite shower, a double, and a bedroom with bunk beds - this room has an optional trundle bed giving families flexibility for three children sharing the same room. There is also a travel cot bed provided, which can be used in this bedroom if the trundle is not in use. All bedrooms have built in wardrobes, so you have plenty of storage space. The main bathroom features a shower over a bath.
The open-plan living/dining room and fully equipped kitchen is a great space for entertaining; with a large dining table for enjoying meals together or for playing one of the provided board games. If you’re looking for some down-time after a busy day out exploring, the TV has built-in Freeview and a DVD player. On the cooler evenings the wood burner can be lit, making it a cosy place to relax.
With the M6/A66 being only 5 minute drive from Sparrow’s Nest, it is the perfect location for exploring some of the very best places that Cumbria (and the surrounding areas) has to offer. You get the best of both worlds with the Lake District to the west and The Yorkshire Dales to the east - even the Scottish border town of Gretna is only a 35 minute drive, so you really are spoilt for choice! You have the market towns of Penrith or Keswick to visit the array of shops and eateries, or the historical city of Carlisle with its castle and museum. Or being located on the fringes of the national park, adventure isn’t far away. From Pooley Bridge you can take the Ullswater Steamer to Glenridding either to relax and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings or to follow in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright and explore the fells. All of this and so much more is easily accessible from this central location. You will find a folder containing lots of leaflets for local attractions to help plan your stay.
Alternatively, if you would rather stay local, just down the road is the Lowther Estate. This includes a gothic castle ruin, 130 acres of gardens, café, shop, exhibition and an amazing adventure playground that will keep everyone entertained for ages! There is a lovely network of walks and cycle paths with the option to hire all-terrain bikes, children’s bikes and also electric mountain bikes on site. Following all this you will have definitely deserved a visit to the cosy pub/restaurant only a mile away in the village of Tirril.

This semi-detached cottage is the ideal getaway for anyone looking to visit the Lake District, and the owner includes festive decorations at Christmas. It sits just on the outskirts of Ulverston, making it easy to walk into the centre to enjoy the delights that the town has to offer, and has off-street parking for two cars. The comfortable living room includes a leather three-seater recliner and recliner chair, and a 43" Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime will keep you entertained. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a kingsize bed, which has been newly redecorated in 2021 (hair dryer also provided) and which has an en-suite shower room. There is also a further double bedroom and a single bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. Outside, the secluded, enclosed garden also has storage for bikes.
Ulverston is a great place from which to explore the South Lakes. The property is a 6-minute walk to the shortest canal in England and is a favourite for fishermen. Walking the canal takes you to Canal Foot and the tidal estuary where you can enjoy a drink overlooking the sea. The coast is a very short drive away at Bardsea where you can enjoy the best ice cream around and walk for miles on the quiet beach.
The town of Ulverston is packed with character from the markets and festivals to the independent shops that make up the high streets. So whether you want the high-end family butcher, the huge selection of freshly ground coffees or unique gifts, Ulverston has it all in walking distance of the property.
There are some fabulous restaurants in the town with high Tripadvisor ratings. If you like Mexican food, there a great restaurant in the town, but be warned, you will need to book weeks in advance!
There is lots to do in the South Lakes whatever the weather or time of year. You will pass the Motor Museum on the way into Ulverston, and the Cumbrian Heavy Horse Centre is only a short drive away, as is the South Lakes Zoo (with pre-booking you can be a zoo-keeper for the day).
The centre of Windermere is half an hour away with all the lake attractions and the Beatrix Potter Trail. Lake Coniston is a quarter of an hour away and the famous Hoad monument is an energetic climb within walking distance of the property. Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
