It is also well placed for Bowness and Ambleside and access to the shores of Lake Windermere is only a short distance away. The longest lake in England, Lake Windermere enjoys a dramatic backdrop of wooded slopes and bare fells. Troutbeck Bridge lies to the north between Windermere and Ambleside; handy for both but located just off the beaten track.
Visit the 18th-century dome shaped villa on Belle Isle, the largest of the fourteen islands, which can be reached by ferry. Nearby attractions include a steamboat museum and visitors’ centre at Brockhole.
