The surrounding area of the Peak District holds many beautiful towns and villages which are easily reached including the small picturesque village of Edale, home to the start/end of the UK’s first long distance walking path - The Pennine Way. Set in the stunning Hope Valley countryside, the rural hill village of Castleton, famous for its caverns, can be reached in half an hour and Bakewell, home to its namesake pudding and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, can be reached within 45 minutes’. Horse riding can also be found nearby, and for children, Hayfield Park is ¼ mile which consists of playground, zip line, skateboard ramps and a mini bike track. - Tideswell, EnglandLocated in the thriving village of Tideswell, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Acorn Cottage is a spacious, end-terraced property in an elevated position. Famous for its magnificent, 14th-century church, known as ’The Cathedral of the Peak’, Tideswell is a large village set in the midst of glorious countryside. With its dog friendly reputation, it makes an excellent base with traditional pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, delicatessens, butchers, and even a local supermarket. Throughout the year events are held such as the Tideswell Food Festival in May, and Well Dressings and Wakes Week in late June to early July.
There are some stunning walks through Tideswell Dale, where there is a nature reserve that leads out onto the Monsal Trail, a popular Peak District walking and cycling trail. The Limestone Way also passes through, and with it heading south can take you all the way to Rocester on the Staffordshire border, or north to the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and Mam Tor, which is around 7 miles away. The ever popular market town of Bakewell is home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, and can be reached in around 15 minutes, as can Buxton with its Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. For those thrill seekers, Matlock and its stunning cable car ride can be reached in around 30 minutes, and the UK’s biggest amusement park, Alton Towers, is around 45 minutes. - Matlock, EnglandAbacus House started life out as the local village school in Hackney, Derbyshire. It is believed to date back to 1910. This charming characterful Grade II listed cottage opens its front door onto the open veranda corridor, once having many small feet running along to get to class on time.

The closest attractions are Matlock and Matlock Bath, giving the opportunity to explore the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom accessed via cable car, and offering spectacular views of the Derwent Valley. From here you can tour the network of caverns and passageways, or walk over 60 acres of woodland hillside. This is an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions including the magnificent stately homes. The beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are an absolute must see, or visit the picturesque villages of Bakewell and Ashover (Cardale in TV’s ‘Peak Practice’) which are both close by.
