Bee Keepers Cottage is located on a working farm on the edge of Derbyshire’s Peak District, the cottage overlooks the 18 hole golf course at Shirland Golf and country club where visitors day passes are available.

The cottage has beautiful rural views and offers guests the peace and quiet of rural living yet within easy access of local attractions and transport networks, and there is a golf course boarding the property’s grounds and miles of footpath networks adjacent to the farm.

The accommodation at Bee Keepers cottage is spaced over a single storey and offers light, bright accommodation with beautiful gardens and views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside.

Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall and Crich tramway museum are a short drive away. Local towns include Matlock, Bakewell and Chesterfield. Derby and Nottinghamshire are a 20-minute drive.

The location is popular with walkers who enjoy the beautiful walks and trails straight from the doorstep.

All accommodation is on the ground floor. The Large modern kitchen/dining area to seat 6 and opens out onto the living area with Smart TV. The kitchen has an electric eye level oven, built in microwave, induction hob, fridge/ freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

Two bedrooms have king size beds, and the third a single bed, and there is a family bathroom with bath and shower above – there is also an additional shower room with quadrant shower cubicle, toilet and basin.

Outside there are two seating areas, a BBQ, gardens and plenty of off-road parking.

Guests are welcome to visit the horses in the barn next to the property (prior arrangement with the owner), please supervise children for their safety.

The cottage, built for salt mill workers is 18th century, and its name originates from Wilne Lane which is mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
Shardlow is an unexpected delight for any unsuspecting visitor, whether emerging from the Derby conurbation in the north and finding quiet, spacious, sweeping greenery, or from the south where a signpost tells you you’re now in Derbyshire, although without the hills and dales you might have been expecting. As you spy the boats, locks, and warehouses, you might even wonder if you’ve been transported to a corner of the Netherlands, an impression that would have been even more likely if Shardlow had hung on to its windmill and more importantly in its hayday it was referred to as ‘Rural Rotterdam’ and ‘Little Liverpool’. Today Shardlow is Britain’s most complete surviving example of a canal village, much of it snuggled safely in a conservation area.

Both enjoy views over surrounding farmland and boast built-in barbecues. There are many attractions around with Calke Abbey and Derby with its theatres, clubs and restaurants within a 15 minute drive, whilst Ashbourne and Dovedale are 15 miles. This holiday cottage is spacious, yet intimate, and commands beautiful views of the countryside surrounding the peaceful village of Sheldon, only 3 miles from the market town of Bakewell. The oldest part of the cottage dates from 1800 and has been converted skilfully into a living room with tasteful furnishings, original beams, exposed stone walls and a large fireplace with a multi-fuel burner. There is a large dining area adjacent to the living room and a kitchen which leads into a south-facing conservatory, ideal for breakfast and relaxing. There is a downstairs toilet and utility area. Upstairs has three large double bedrooms (two with en-suite showers) and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a 6ft zip and link bed which can be used as a double bed or two single beds. The cottage has Sky TV and wi-fi internet access. Only a few steps from the main cottage is a games room and studio apartment. The large, heated games room has a pool table and table tennis table as well as a drying room for wet clothes and boots. Above the games room is the studio with sitting room and a double bedroom with en-suite. The sitting room has a sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only) and a TV. It is 1 mile from Whaley Bridge where you can stroll along the tow path to the Buxworth Basin or take a narrow boat trip. Whaley Bridge also has a train station to help explore if you want to leave the car behind. You could spend a day in Manchester and take in a show for the evening. 6½ miles away is the famous spa town of Buxton which also boasts an opera house and Pavilion Gardens. Book a day in the Dome Spa to relax or travel a little further and visit Chatsworth House and its amazing gardens and estate. Medieval Haddon Hall and the old market town of Bakewell is a must and you can travel through Winnets Pass to the charming village of Castleton with its famous caves where the Blue John stone is mined. Take a tour by boat through these caves and learn about the history of the people and how they mined them. Matlock Bath and Alton Towers make great days out for families. There are plenty of activities to enjoy locally including inhouse clay pigeon shooting lessons (at cost, by arrangement with owner) and there is also golf and horse riding located within 5 miles of the property. Centrally located, just 15 minutes north of the hugely popular tourist town of Bakewell and 15 minutes south of the Peaks most famous village Castleton, its position within the Peak District itself makes it an ideal base. Chatsworth Estate and the spa town of Buxton can be easily reached within 20 minutes and the larger towns and cities of Chesterfield and Sheffield with their many shops, restaurants and theatres are within half an hour.
