Alphin Apartment is a beautiful first floor apartment that can be found on the edge of Saddleworth Moor, and is situated alongside a main road which makes for easy access to the surrounding area. Located in a converted barn attached to the friendly owners’ mid 19th century Pennine farmhouse, it was completely refurbished throughout in 2018 with wonderful attention to detail, and offers beautiful far reaching views across the South Pennines. Just 2 miles from the popular village of Uppermill, a village which is fast becoming a rival to the trendiest parts of south Manchester, but in a semi rural environment. Uppermill is popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers alike with the immediate area surrounded by beautiful countryside such as the spectacular Dovestone Reservoir which is just 10 minutes away, and backs onto the Peak District National Park and all it has to offer. For those bringing their four-legged friends, warm water dog wash facilities are also provided at the property. The Diggle end of the Standedge Tunnel is nearby and Uppermill together with a bustling high street full of restaurants, bars and swish cafés also offers canal boats tours and both canal and riverside walks. Just 5 minutes in the other direction is the small town of Mossley, and uniquely is where the historic counties of Lancashire, Cheshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire all meet.
Around an hours scenic car journey across the moors will take you to the tourist hotspots of artsy Hebden Bridge and fabulous Haworth with its cobbled high street, most famous for its Bronte heritage. Holmfirth most recognisable from Last of the Summer Wine, and the bright lights of Manchester can be reached in around 30 minutes or the city of Leeds in around an hour by car or via the local railway station less than a mile away. Two good food serving pubs are within easy walking distance, and other local attractions include the annual ‘Yanks’ weekend held each August (Dobcross was used as a filming location for the blockbuster ‘Yanks’ starring Richard Gere) and the ‘Whit Friday Brass Band Contest’, often described as ’the greatest free show on Earth’. Widely recognised as the back drop for the record breaking BBC comedy Last of the Summer Wine, you can take a tour around the variety of film locations, and being located on the edge of the fabulous Peak District National Park means there are endless outdoor opportunities for walkers. Keen cyclists will relish the chance to recreate the 2015 Tour de Yorkshire at Holme Moss, and if you can bear to tear yourself away from the area there’s the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Cannon Hall Farm around 30 minutes away and the cities of both Manchester and Leeds in around an hour. Dating back to the 17th Century, Hob Cote is a superb semi-detached stone built cottage in a peaceful and picturesque location just 1-mile from artsy Hebden Bridge. Completely renovated throughout in 2021, the cottage and surrounding grounds are simply stunning and come complete with private hot tub. Inside you’ll find beamed ceilings, an impressive stone fireplace boasting a wood burner and stylish wooden panelling to the walls. The three bedrooms are beautifully decorated and super comfortable, which with the peaceful surroundings guarantee a great night’s sleep.
Outside the grounds are delightful and offer stunning far reaching views. To the front you’ll find a south facing patio complete with a Lazy Susan garden set, perfect for sociable meals. The location in Midgehole is semi-rural and on the edge of the National Trust owned beauty spot of Hardcastle Crags. Here you can stroll amongst woodland, waterfalls and streams and visit the café at Gibson Mill which offers a range of snacks. Countless other public footpaths are available in the area including the picturesque river path down into Hebden Bridge, which was the UK’s first ‘walkers are welcome’ accredited town. In Hebden Bridge you’ll find a bustling collection of independent shops, bars and cafés as well as a 1920’s Art Deco cinema and a live music venue. Hebden Bridge train station is in the centre of the town and offers a direct service to both Manchester, 30 minutes, and Leeds, 60 minutes, and both the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks can be reached in around an hours drive.
Due to the age of the property it should be noted that head height is restricted through some doorways; and the stairs are not suitable for guests with restricted mobility, or young children. The stairs are steep, open sided and the treads are not consistent in size.

This beautiful semi-detached, 16th-century, Grade II listed cottage can be found in the delightful Calderdale village of Warley, West Yorkshire, in a conservation area. To the rear of the cottage, you have a private patio area with garden furniture and barbeque, a pretty place to sit and have a glass of fizz alfresco style and take in the fresh countryside air.
A 10-minute drive will take you to the historic town of Halifax, where you will find ample amenities including many great places to eat and drink. Halifax is also home to the unique Grade I listed Piece Hall where scenes from BBC’s Gentleman Jack were filmed, as well as Eureka! the National Children’s Museum perfect for families, and the Halifax Minster. Slightly further afield is the charming and vibrant market town of Hebden Bridge which can be reached in around a 15-minute drive, as can Haworth, most famous for its Brontë heritage. Set between the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, both can be reached in around an hour, together with the bright lights of both Manchester and York. There is also a country style pub within walking distance from the cottage which serves local ales and good old pub grub. The only issue you will have with this staycation is fitting everything in so why not book a few extra days!

This beautiful stone-built cottage offers a comfortable stay in the charming World Heritage Site of Saltaire, which is full of history, character and stunning architecture. The village is named after Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill, known as Salts Mill and this village on the River Aire back in the 1800s. There are many reasons why you should visit Saltaire from the spectacular architecture as you wander around the village, to the independent shops and restaurants scattered around the village. There is world class art on display at Salts Mill with one of the largest collections of David Hockney’s, and all surrounded by countryside and moors.
Bronte country is also nearby, offering lots of wonderful walking routes across the moors and, for those keen on cycling, why not try a section of the Tour de France route that runs through Keighley and Haworth? For a more relaxing way to explore the area, hop on the Worth Valley Steam Train from Keighley Station, which takes you on a 5-mile journey through the Haworth moors and on to Oxenhope, once home to the Bronte sisters. The village of Haworth, 8 miles, is well worth a visit with its pretty cobbled streets lined with bunting and old-fashioned windows giving you a glimpse of the wares within. There is an array of antique shops, independent bookstores, pavement cafés and restaurants, plus the Bronte Parsonage Museum.
The market town of Skipton, also known as ‘The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, 15 miles, is another great day out and can be easily accessed by the train station located at the end of the road, with its tempting selection of bars and restaurants, a medieval castle and bustling street markets. You can also take a stroll along the Leeds & Liverpool canal that runs through, or simply watch the barges chug through from a bar overlooking the water. The only issue you will have is trying to fit everything in so why not book a few extra days? Pub 1 mile.
