Oakridge is a stunning example of 1800s architecture with a luxurious, contemporary interior. This semi-detached property offers a large sociable kitchen/dining room for family meals and playing games in front of the Aga before retiring to the living room. There is a large conservatory that looks out onto the lovely garden, and the utility room has a separate shower room which is great for rinsing off after a dip in the hot tub. The kitchen patio doors open out onto the hot tub and stone-built barbecue area, and there is a separate quieter area at the far end of the garden if you just want to relax and unwind. There is a ground floor bedroom and shower room, and the spacious first floor master bedroom benefits from both a spa bath and a fantastic shower. The large landing on the first floor is perfect for relaxing with a good book.
Hinderwell is a village with excellent local amenities including a good butchers, convenience store, a local pub and a tea room all just a short walk from your doorstep. This quaint village is just a mile from the picturesque fishing village of Runswick Bay, which boasts a sandy cove with opportunities for fossil hunting and rock pooling, yet right in the North York Moors National Park. Head north or south on the Cleveland Way and visit some of the amazing coastal gems such as Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend or Saltburn.
The bustling town of Whitby is a short drive or bus ride away where you will find so much to see and do. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sandy beach, traditional amusement arcades and regular boat trips out to sea in search of minke whales and dolphins. There are many bistros and restaurants ranging from award-winning fish and chips to fine dining as well as tea rooms, coffee shops and pubs with live music. If you’re feeling energetic why not attempt the 199 steps up to the abbey that towers over Whitby.
You can drive inland to enjoy the natural beauty and some amazing heritage sites such as abbeys and monasteries within the National Park or catch a steam train as it snakes through the lush countryside to destinations such as Goathland and Pickering. There is a huge diversity of things to do in the area from surfing to golfing, and there is an abundance of walking and cycling tracks. The more traditional seaside town of Scarborough is just along the coast with its two huge bays, and the walled city of York is well worth a visit. Beach ¾ mile. Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

This beautiful cottage, built in the local honey coloured sandstone is accessed via a country road, giving you tempting glimpses over the fields to the sea beyond. Your enclosed garden is in an elevated position so you can really appreciate the scenery, and it is a haven for wildlife. Stepping inside, the kitchen is open plan with the dining area, making an inviting space where you can spend time creating meals to enjoy together. The adjoining living room has an Italian leather sofa and armchair beside the electric wood burner, and French doors opening out onto the patio. Upstairs you have two spacious bedrooms, both are spacious, are en-suite and have walk-in wardrobes.
The cottage looks down on the fabulous historic fishing village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and coble boats and you are similarly perfectly placed to explore Whitby, Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and the delightful surfers paradise of Saltburn. Staithes View is in a delightfully secluded spot, with the delights of the North York Moors surrounding you. Goathland, Grosmont, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and the lovely market town of Guisborough are all within easy reach, as is the heritage steam railway, now world-famous following the Harry Potter movies. For keen walkers there are many scenic walking trails to choose from, with the Cleveland Way giving you arguably the most breath-taking views in Yorkshire as you follow the cliff top footpath. Less than 10 minutes away you have Scaling Dam, where you will find watersports to enjoy including sailing and paddleboarding.
There is an 18th-century coaching inn where you can enjoy meals and views over the reservoir, with a play area as well as an adventure golf course for younger family members. The nearest pub in Easington is 1¾ miles away; it serves great food, is dog friendly, has large TVs for sports events and has an outdoor play area for children. Staithes is a 10-minute drive away, and you also have the glorious golden sandy beach at Skinningrove less than 5 miles away. There is so much to see and do nearby, making this a great destination throughout all the seasons.

St Hilda’s Rest is a barn conversion tucked away in a secluded part of the small village of Hinderwell on an award-winning accommodation development. It is close to the seaside town of Staithes and about 9 miles from Whitby. Hinderwell is just a 5-minute walk from the cottage, and local amenities include several excellent several pubs, a good butchers, local shops and a café. Staithes is just a mile down the road and is worth exploring. With great access to Sandsend and the seaside town of Whitby, you can enjoy the picturesque coastline on your visit, or choose to explore the historic Whitby Abbey.

Evergreen House is a well-presented, spacious property with private parking. Ideal for families and friends, you have a welcoming home from home to return to after exploring the beautiful surroundings of the heritage coastline as well as the North York Moors National Park. The large enclosed garden is surrounded by wild birdsong and boasts a summerhouse, where you can play a selection of board games. The summerhouse has electricity with lighting and heaters so you can use it in the evenings. Stepping inside from the garden, glass doors open into the open plan kitchen/dining room. At the top of the village a minute’s walk away away is a popular pub and hotel serving evening meals. Runswick Bay has arguably the most beautiful beach along this coastline. From the top of the village it takes just over 10 minutes to walk down the hill to the bay with a cluster of historic houses teetering above the sea. Down beside the bay is a small café, a traditional pub, a sailing club, paddleboarding and kayaking through the warmer months. It is a sheltered bay, so the water is often calm, whereas surfers have neighbouring Saltburn and Sandsend where the waves are often much bigger. The beach is beautiful, as well as being both dog and child friendly. From the clifftops you can join the Cleveland Way which links scenic coastal villages and bays from Filey in the south and up to Saltburn in the north, then continuing into the North York Moors National Park.
For days out you will be spoilt for choice. Further north along the coast is Staithes and Saltburn, the latter a surfers’ paradise with a Victorian pier and funicular railway, with an enormous beach stretching to Marske and Redcar. To the south is Sandsend, where the waves dramatically crash over the sea wall at high tide. Whitby is bursting with history and draws guests from around the world. The tangle of cobbled streets in the village of Robin Hood’s Bay cling to the cliff top, with houses spilling right down to the water’s edge. For a day out to remember, take the heritage steam train from Whitby across the Esk valley with some quaint villages to visit along the way. Cyclists will love the Cinder Track which is fairly level and connects Whitby to Scarborough.

Here you can enjoy the views over the sea and along the cliff tops, with a raised decking area, accessed by a ramp for accessibility, making the most of the breath-taking panoramic scenery. You can watch the tide ebb and flow revealing the most glorious golden stretch of beach. Glass double doors lead from the decking into the living room, where you can sit back and soak up the scenery, or if you can drag your eyes away you can watch some TV, in the warm glow from the wood burner. The kitchen is well equipped with everything needed to create all your favourite meals, which you can enjoy at the dining table, again with beautiful sea views. Or when the weather is glorious, soak up the sun’s rays out on the decking with a barbecue. On the ground floor you also have a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. There is the option of a lift to get up to the first floor to make this accessible for guests with reduced mobility. Upstairs are a further three bedrooms, all complete with en-suites.

This delightful holiday home, adjoining the owner’s home, provides, rural, romantic accommodation in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. The layout is set out over the ground floor, with a first floor bedroom. Guests are greeted with a modern kitchen on entering through the front door. This is a well-equipped space that is ideal for preparing meals when on your escape. Through the inner hallway that offers storage and access to the bathroom, you will reach the cosy living/dining room, which is a welcome haven after a hard day’s walking or exploring the east coast. The French doors in the living room open out on the patio, perfect to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. The bedroom is on the first floor and offers a Velux window suitable to enjoy the views from. Up on the first floor you have a super kingsize bedroom with fabulous sea views to wake up to, as well as a dressing table and a wardrobe. The family bathroom is on this floor, you have a shower over the bath. On the second floor is a twin bedroom with sea views from the Velux window; this room boasts a snug area under the eaves with a TV and bean bags, making this a fun area for younger family members who can tuck themselves away for a movie night.
A second set of stairs from the kitchen takes you up to another twin bedroom. This is a great cottage for families or friends looking to escape to the country, with the beach only a 20-minute walk away. The area is a haven for keen walkers, cyclists and dog owners with numerous pathways and cycle tracks located right on your doorstep, including the famous 110- mile Cleveland Way that can be accessed literally yards away. It is conveniently positioned for visiting the delightful coastal resorts of Runswick Bay, just one mile away, and Sandsend and Whitby, where you can enjoy beautiful stretches of golden beaches. The quaint village of Sandsend is only four miles away and is an ideal place for all the family with its award-winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. This part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here.
Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon which is great for paddling and boating. A lovely, scenic 6-mile walk along the Cleveland Way will bring you into the historic port of Whitby where you will find an abundance of activities for adults and children to enjoy. There is a large selection of pubs, quaint antique and gift shops, the famous fish and chip shops and 3 miles of golden sandy beach and amusements. You can take a trip on one of the fishing boats that will take you out and around the harbour where you can appreciate the views of St Mary’s Church and the stunning abbey that towers on the east side of the town.
Whitby has many events going on all year round which are extremely popular including folk wek, music weekends including sixties and soul weekends and also Goth Weekends mainly because of Whitby’s connection with Dracula. Due to the property being in such a rural location phone signal and the wifi can be sometimes intermittent, adding to the tranquillity of your stay.

Seaton Court has a fascinating past, the hall was named after the de Seton dynasty who resided from 1130 to 1307 and whose family made allegiances with and marriages to the Scottish Royal family. Passed down through generations, before slipping into disrepair. The present owner (who is descended from one of the previous residents Sir Francis Bigod) purchased the estate in 2002 and employed a team of specialist masons and craftsmen who have been lovingly rebuilding and restoring this incredible place of local heritage. Located in private grounds on the edge of Staithes on the breathtakingly beautiful North Yorkshire Coast, surrounded by the heather clad North Yorkshire Moors.
