Tickton Hall is a 110-acre private country estate nestled at the end of a tree lined drive just outside the historical market town of Beverley. The estate has wonderful, established woodlands and parklands with grazing horses in abundance, which you can see from many of the cottages’ windows. It is also home to the Beverley Polo Club with two polo pitches, fabulous full-size arena and stabling for up to 60 horses. You just might be able to catch a polo match during your stay! You can even bring your horse on holiday with you, subject to availability at our Horse Hotel! These delightful, detached holiday properties (refs UKC458 and W44279) provide tastefully furnished bases from which to explore the area, or simply sit back and relax.
There are superb walks straight from the cottage doors. Within the estate you can walk around the picturesque horse exercise course or the cross country course, all within a couple of minutes of the cottages. Or if you are looking for a longer hike, the estate links to designated walks along the river bank that extend for miles. A must during your stay is a short stroll around the polo pitch to the fabulous country pub offering gorgeous local fare with a great garden for children or a suntrap spot by the river bank – no need to drive!
Beverley, 4 miles, is well known for its racecourse, minster and many boutiques and excellent coffee shops. The coast at Hornsea can be reached within 10 miles, with traditional amusements and promenade, and a wildlife centre at Hornsea Mere. York, a great place for a day out, is about an hour’s drive, and The Deep at Hull, one of the UK’s biggest aquariums, is about half an hour away. Beach 10 miles. Completely modernised yet retaining its original working range in the living room, it offers a peaceful location with far reaching views. The RSPB have noted over 100 different species of birds on the farmland, and with a pond available for coarse fishing and a footpath leading to the coast, this is an ideal cottage to enjoy many forms of wildlife. Just 4 miles from Bridlington, with Flamborough Head and Bempton RSPB reserve beyond, and with the coastline all accessible, together with days out at Beverley, 16 miles away, or historic York, this also makes a great touring base. The Hind House has been refurbished in 2018 to a very good standard and was the original living quarters for the farm works at Cottam Warren Farm. Situated down a long drive and nestled under large beech trees to the edge of this working arable farm, this detached house has wonderful views over the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds with the market town of Driffield, only 4 miles away. Within easy reach of the property are numerous stately homes including Sledmere House and Burton Agnes Hall, quiet Wolds villages and the market towns of Beverley and Malton, not to mention the seaside resorts of Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough. For those wishing to explore a little further afield, York, Whitby and the Yorkshire Moors are all less than an hours’ drive away.

The kitchen has a working Aga, but don’t worry an electric oven is also available for those not wishing to use this traditional farmhouse oven. An Aga cookbook is on hand with lots of delicious recipes to try. The dining room sits in the middle of the property and retains the sweeping staircase and a large picture window. The Hind House offers plenty of outside space too with a kennel for dogs, a bike store for keen cyclists, a large-enclosed garden for children to play in and a patio area perfectly placed to enjoy the evening sun and al fresco dining. Just a one-mile walk from Flamborough’s magnificent lighthouse, these former agricultural barns, estimated to date back approximately 200 years, have been skillfully converted retaining many original features and exposed roof timbers. The location of these cottages affords far-reaching views, yet close to local amenities; each one has its own sitting-out area complete with garden furniture and with underfloor heating at ground level the holiday cottages remain cosy all year round. Built in 1860, the lighthouse stands guard atop the chalk cliff, as a silent sentinel, protecting shipping off Flamborough Head, and tours are available throughout the summer. The headland overlooks Selwick’s Bay, where visitors can stroll along the chalk paths descending to the sand and gravel beach with its fascinating rock pools. Flamborough Head Golf Course, 3/4 mile, offers a warm welcome for both golfers and diners in their clubhouse and another cliff top course can be found at Bridlington Links, 3 miles. The spectacular chalk cliffs to the north, with their panoramic views, are home to one of the largest nesting seabird colonies in England - RSPB Bempton.
