The spacious beamed living room has windows on three sides, allowing the light to flood in. With its vaulted beamed ceiling, oak floor, and log-burning stove in a large stone fireplace, it is a warm and welcoming room. Equipped with a large, comfortable sofa and chairs, it’s a delightful place for friends and family to relax at the end of the day. There is a separate toilet that is accessed from the living room. The fully fitted kitchen has oak worktops, a Belfast sink and a plate rack. The twin bedroom is in the attic and has exposed brickwork and sloping ceilings. The quirky layout of the barn means you access the double bedroom and en-suite shower room via an external entrance, enhancing the charm of this unique cottage. The delightful, tranquil bedroom also has a vaulted ceiling and oak floor, along with a New England colonial bed and Japanese hot tub. The room also has French doors overlooking a small patio garden equipped with a rattan table and chairs.
The village of Wicken is a charming base for your holiday with a village pond and green just opposite the barn conversion, as well as the local pub and Wicken Fen Nature Reserve. Cycle hire is also available at Wicken Fen, so you can tour the scenic routes of Sustrans Route 11 all the way through to King’s Lynn. The village is honeycombed with ancient waterways and the River Cam runs through the area.
Visit Ely Cathedral a little further afield; the city is also home to The Stained-Glass Museum, Oliver Cromwell’s House and a Saturday market. Newmarket is also nearby, a quaint market town hosting the National Horse Racing Museum. Or why not explore the picture-perfect streets of Cambridge? Where you’ll find plenty of museums, independent cafés and Cambridge University Botanic Garden.

Here you will find a wide sandy beach that seems to go on forever, a small funfair, a Sealife Centre, Norfolk Lavender and lots of seaside shops and cafes. Closer to home lies the bustling city of Ely with its impressive cathedral, nicknamed ‘The ship of the Fens’ because of the way it rises up on the horizon. Here you will find a fascinating stained glass museum, which offers a rare insight to this beautiful art form.

Bustling Newmarket is close by and offers a famous racecourse which often hosts musical entertainment evenings. For breathtaking countryside, visit Thetford Forest with its numerous walks and cycle routes, and its Go Ape centre, featuring tree walks, zip wires and Tarzan swings. Set in a quiet residential area of the sought after suburb of Cherry Hinton yet close to the centre of Cambridge, Cavendish is a semi-detached house and is the perfect choice for those wishing to explore this great university city. With a peaceful, enclosed garden to the rear, it really is possible to enjoy a city break and still unwind. Those wishing to avoid driving and parking in Cambridge can leave the car behind and use the regular buses, which run to the centre. There is also a cycle or walking route that takes you to the heart of the city. Cambridge has a wealth of things to do and see. Punting on the River Cam is a must as is one of the many walking tours that operate across this historical city. Enjoy an open top bus tour, sit back and relax and enjoy the sights of this great city. The famous Fitzwilliam Museum is also well worth a visit and there are, of course, numerous places to shop, eat and drink. Close by lies the Cambridgeshire Fens with Welney Wetlands, a must for wildlife lovers, and the small city of Ely, where its magnificent cathedral has been dubbed ’the ship of the fens’ because of the way it rises up on the horizon as you approach. Close by lies Godmanchester, a historic and scenic town situated on the River Great Ouse, in the Ouse Valley. There has been a settlement here since Viking times and the town retains much of its Roman history where history buffs can visit Porch Museum, as it is home to many local artefacts and is a treasure trove of information about the history of the town. Also a ‘must visit’ is the university city of Cambridge with its guided walks, numerous museums, including the famous Fitzwilliam, punting on the River Cam, open top bus tours and great shops and restaurants. In fact, to fit it all in, you will need to make several visits, and Cambridge’s network of park and ride systems make this very easy to do. Alternatively you can pop in to Huntingdon and take the train, which also runs to Ely with its magnificent cathedral, or even be in the heart of London in around an hour. Even closer lies Grafham Water, which offers water sports and is a great place for a leisurely stroll, picnic or family day out. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll undoubtedly be pleased to return to Pam’s Plaice and enjoy dinner in the light and airy conservatory, which just seems to bring the outside in, or in the pretty rear garden, while you plan adventures yet to be had.
