Close by lies Godmanchester, a historic and scenic town situated on the River Great Ouse, in the Ouse Valley. There has been a settlement here since Viking times and the town retains much of its Roman history where history buffs can visit Porch Museum, as it is home to many local artefacts and is a treasure trove of information about the history of the town. Also a ‘must visit’ is the university city of Cambridge with its guided walks, numerous museums, including the famous Fitzwilliam, punting on the River Cam, open top bus tours and great shops and restaurants. In fact, to fit it all in, you will need to make several visits, and Cambridge’s network of park and ride systems make this very easy to do. Alternatively you can pop in to Huntingdon and take the train, which also runs to Ely with its magnificent cathedral, or even be in the heart of London in around an hour. Even closer lies Grafham Water, which offers water sports and is a great place for a leisurely stroll, picnic or family day out. The historic university city of Cambridge is only 9 miles away where you can enjoy a punt along the River Cam, take in the magnificent architecture of the university buildings, visit museums or spend the day shopping in the many department stores, high street shops and individual boutiques. The city of Ely is 15 miles away, famous for its stunning cathedral and the location where Oliver Cromwell resided for 10 years. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is well worth a day out with its historical accounts of the 1st and 2nd World Wars. Make the most of the beautiful countryside by walking and cycling through it or visit Fen Drayton Lakes which is a haven for birdlife around the lakes and traditional riverside meadows, next to the River Great Ouse. It is the ideal base to explore Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. There are cycle routes to Cambridge and Ely easily accessed from the farm. Some guests may prefer to relax in the private (unfenced) 1-acre garden with its 4-acre paddocks and enjoy the facilities on-site or nearby.
