Helstone, EnglandThis charming Cornish holiday cottage is in the heart of this pretty hamlet of Helestone, a short drive from the town of Camelford with its shops, pubs and restaurants. It has a cosy living room with an open fire and a lovely farmhouse style kitchen kitchen/dining room with slate floors and an Aga, as well as a separate utility room. On the first floor there are two pretty bedrooms, whilst up in the open plan loft conversion there is a kingsize bedroom with a spacious, modern en-suite bathroom with a freestanding bath, double shower cubicle, toilet and wash basin. The garden is to the front of the property and has a sitting-out area which is ideal for morning coffee or al fresco dining.
The holiday cottage is close to the harbour village of Port Isaac, made famous by the TV series ‘Doc Martin’, with its selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. Also within easy reach are the coastal villages of Boscastle and Tintagel, which is the mythical home of King Arthur. Just down the coast is Padstow with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants including Rick Stein’s famous fish restaurant. Here you can take a ferry across to Rock to enjoy some of the watersports on offer. You can also cycle or walk along the Camel Trail which follows the Camel Estuary along to the market town of Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin. A short drive away is Bodmin Moor which is unspoilt moorland at its best. Golf club nearby, and Trebarwith Strand beach only a few miles away. Bude, EnglandThis historic, spacious, terraced, 500-year-old former church house sits peacefully beside the village green and war memorial, in front of the 12th-century Norman church of St Andrews. The house has been lovingly restored and retains many original features.
The large living room and dining area, with its 16th-century ceiling beams, are great for a family gathering, or a cosy night in beside the wood burner. There is a small part-covered, shady, internal courtyard room with a flagstone floor, fountain, window seat and small outdoor table and chairs.
All 4 double bedrooms have either cupboard or hanging rack space for clothes/storage. The second floor bedroom runs the length of the cottage and has huge, original 16th-century A-frame roof beams and three, heritage Velux-style windows. Removable blackout blinds are available for guests who wish to use them.
The cottage is just a few steps from the village post office, shop and an excellent hair salon. Just beyond that are the two village pubs, The Tree Inn and The Kings Arms.
Jalna is the perfect coastal holiday choice close to the Victorian seaside town of Bude with its glorious sandy beaches and breath-taking South West coastal path scenery. It is the ideal escape venue in which to spend time with friends and family.
Bude is incredibly popular all year round, with its castle heritage centre, a vibrant town centre and an array of restaurants and bars, together with two sandy beaches and the nearby coastal path. It retains its Victorian charm whilst offering something for everyone. The food scene around Stratton and Bude has really taken off.
