The Chestnut Centre Otter, Owl & Wildlife Park is just 10 minutes from the property, and the beautiful ever popular village of Castleton, home to the Blue John Cavern, is around 15 minutes. The spa town of Buxton, famous for its spring water, Pavillion Gardens and Victorian Opera House can be reached in around 20 minutes, and finally Bakewell, home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, is around half an hour. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 130 yards.

There is a local pub within a mile which serves real ale and good food. There is a well-stocked licensed general store, a post office which sells wonderful breads and preserves. Longnor has a fish and chip shop and a small, but delightful childrens park Woodside View is a haven for walkers and cyclists to explore the Tissington and High Peak cycle tracks.
Nearby is Buxton with its eventful Opera House, the Crescent Hotel which was recently opened boasting a 5-star spa and the pavilion Gardens, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are both within easy reach, along with numerous National Trust Properties, Parks and Gardens, and delightful historic market towns and villages.

This cosy renovated barn has been furnished to a good standard and offers a great base to explore the Goyt Valley and Buxton on foot, cycle or by car. It has a galleried landing over the lounge leading to a good sized bedroom and bathroom. The cottage is only a short drive from the small town of Whaley Bridge and a stone’s throw away from many walks within the Peak District National Park. Fernilee is within walking distance of both Fernilee and Erwood reservoirs and the walks start from the front door. Ruby Cottage is a renovated one bedroom cottage, located in an elevated position in the quaint village of Longnor close to the popular spa town of Buxton. This ancient village is set in lovely moorland countryside, six miles to the southeast of Buxton. The River Dove flows to the north, the River Manfold to the south and large numbers of visitors came here to explore the upper reaches of these two famous valleys and the rugged scenery that surrounds them. The village is well equipped with a local store, a fish and chip shop, a newly refurbished pub, post office and Sweetilicious sweetie shop. The Packhorse at Crowdecote is less than a mile away and there are many other good pubs within a few mile radius. Information on these can be found in the cottage.

There are many stunning walks right from the doorstep and the property has the benefit of being close to many interesting Derbyshire towns and villages including Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, famous for its puddings, and Castleton with its amazing show caves and cliff top Peveril Castle. Attractions include stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, the Heights of Abraham, a cable car ride high above the gorge and Blue John Caves known for its semi-precious Blue John Stone. Buxton Opera House is also worth checking out to see what’s on.

There is a train station in Whaley Bridge with direct services to both Manchester and Buxton. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub ¼ mile.

Buxton is a real festival town and the cottage’s great location puts you in a ideal location to enjoy its summer carnivals and many musical and theatrical events. Situated within very easy walking distance of all the Buxton International Festival and Fringe venues, it is short walk from Buxton Opera House. Buxton is surrounded by the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and lies less than a mile from the Peak National Park. The more adventurous can enjoy cycling, rock climbing and gliding. Visit Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, and the National Trust’s Hardwick Hall, all of which have starred in the BBC period dramas and historical films. And if ever you do get a yearning for the big city, there’s always Manchester, just an hour away on the train. Really, what more could you want?
