The Peak District town of Holmfirth, 13 miles, used as the setting for TVs ‘Last of the summer Wine’ and ‘Where the Heart is’ is also worth a visit.     This wonderful holiday apartment, renovated in 2019, can be found in the bustling High Peak market town of Glossop, on the edge of the Peak District National Park.     Recognised from its appearance as ‘Royston Vasey’ in TV’s ‘The League of Gentlemen’, Glossop is also renowned for the sheer amount of nearby outdoor activities, from walking, cycling and mountain biking, to rock climbing, hang gliding and caving. The traffic-free Longendale Trail can also be picked up in Glossop, which stretches for 7 miles from Hadfield to Woodhead Tunnel, and is accompanied by spectacular scenery.

Many walks and trails start from right outside the front door. The building is a converted barn and full of character but also benefits from a contemporary interior with high quality fittings and sustainable technologies such as ground source underfloor heating. As you enter the property you will be blown away by the open plan space and high ceilings with fantastic views from each window.
    Step down onto the lower ground floor and you’ll find an open plan living space, with a well-equipped modern kitchen. There is a dining table with four chairs, a warming wood burner, Smart TV, and ample comfy seating. Patio doors take you out onto the enclosed back garden where outdoor furniture is positioned well to take in the amazing views. There is a small bedroom on the lower ground floor with single sized bunk beds, and a neatly tucked away washing machine should you need it. The ground floor wet room has separate bath, basin and open shower. The main double bedroom has en-suite facilities with a cubicle shower.
    The Shack is also ideal for a romantic break. Visitors can enjoy peace and privacy whilst still being within easy reach of Hayfield village which has several pubs and cafes. After a long day out, you can amble down the lane to the pub or just kick back in front of the fire and relax.
    The Sheep Shack benefits from sustainable technologies and has been built to BREAM specifications meaning low carbon consumption and very high levels of insulation. Solar heat is captured invisibly by a ground loop under the neighbouring field to supply hot water and underfloor heating.

As you arrive and step into the open plan living space, you will find a beautiful island (with built-in hob) in the centre of the room, which also provides dining space for up to four guests to sit comfortably. The kitchen has all the appliances you should need to cook up a storm if you wish to do so! The living area has comfortable seating with a large, wall-mounted, Smart TV and to finish the room off nicely; bi-fold doors lead out into the garden, which can be left open on days that allow.
    Upstairs is the master bedroom with a kingsize bed, which has the addition of a galleried snug area with TV and bean bags to give you a little quiet corner to enjoy, and also an en-suite with freestanding bath (please be careful on the laddered steps to get to this area). The second bedroom is a king which can be split into two singles if required, and has wardrobe space. Outside is a great size garden, which has a lawned area to the right as well as a patio directly outside the bi-fold doors. You can sit on the garden furniture and watch the squirrels!
    Squirrel Cottage is located in close proximity to the town centre of Glossop, just a short walk away from all it has to offer, including coffee shops, pubs and restaurants as well as supermarkets and shops. Manor park and gardens are also just around the corner. There is a variety of walks surrounding Glossop, such as, a car-free Longendale Trail which has beautiful scenery to take in while you enjoy your walk or cycle, plus you are only a 30-minute drive from Edale, Castleton or the spa town of Buxton, all offering further fantastic walking routes which are picturesque.
