Take a trip to Dartmoor and climb the Tors or have a cream tea in one of the many cafés. Sail over to Brixham from the pier in Torquay, which is a lovely day out, and going by boat there are no traffic jams. Take a journey on the steam railway and go as far as Dartmouth, where you can see the Naval College or visit the castle. If you want some retail therapy, there are many shops to visit, or sit and while away the hours in one of the many cafés/restaurants Dartmouth has to offer. Visit Agatha Christie’s summer house, Greenway, as well as many other National Trust properties in the area.
For family day outs, visit Paignton Zoo, where you can see the elephants and ride the small railway, or explore Living Coasts, where the penguins wander freely. Other attractions include Kent’s Cavern, where you can venture underground through a fascinating labyrinth of prehistoric caves, and Go Ape at Haldon, where you can climb through the trees. There are many National Trust properties all waiting to be explored, and Darts Farm, a short distance away, is worth a visit and where you can stop and enjoy a meal. The city of Exeter is within easy reach and has great shopping, a historic cathedral, a theatre and the underground passages attraction. Woodbury common is on the doorstep, and Dartmoor is an easy drive, both offering great walking and scenery. Beach 7 miles.
