Green Oak Cottage offers stylish accommodation, enjoys wonderful country views and is set in picturesque Dorset countryside. It is in the heart of what was the Royal Stud and is in a great location to explore this wonderful area, with Sherborne to the west, Shaftesbury to the east and Wincanton to the north.
Green Oak Cottage is linked to the owners’ home and is beautifully furnished with original artworks. It has a comfortable interior; on the ground floor is an open plan living space with French doors which open onto a private patio and undisturbed views. There’s also a ground floor shower room. Heading upstairs are two bedrooms: one double and one twin, and a bathroom with bath, basin and toilet.
The property sits on the edge of cider orchards and there are lovely long walks across the Blackmore Vale with several footpaths within easy reach which lead down into the village of Buckhorn Weston and the local pub for wining and dining. Within easy driving there is much to enjoy, whether taking in the lovely character towns of Sherborne, with its shops, castle and abbey, or Shaftesbury with its links to Hovis and the famous Gold Hill. You can enjoy visiting nearby attractions, such as National Trust Stourhead House and Gardens, Longleat House and Safari Park, Haynes International Motor Museum or the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum. Further afield you can venture to the city of Bath, with its Georgian architecture, Salisbury with its fascinating cathedral city and spire, and many more exciting places. Welcome to Appledore Cottage. This truly stunning thatched cottage is located in the peaceful village of Farnham, ideal for exploring the stunning countryside Dorset has to offer. Recently refurbished in 2022 to a high standard, this is the perfect holiday for the whole family to relax. Entering via a porch way for muddy shoes and coats, the living room is well equipped with comfy sofas, a Smart TV and an electric wood burner. Rear French doors lead you into the back garden where you can relax after a long day exploring. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining room is located next to the kitchen where you can enjoy a morning coffee or a family meal. Upstairs via the unique spiral staircase there are three bedrooms - a master bedroom with kingsize bed and en-suite shower room, a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. The family bathroom offers a shower over bath, basin and toilet.
Farnham is a small village with a pub a short walk away, and Larmer Tree Gardens is only a short drive away, well worth a visit to wander around the beautiful gardens. You can also visit the National Trust sites of Kingston Lacy House, Hod Hill and the White Mill. Dorset Heavy Horse Farm is a wonderful family day out where you can feed the animals or enjoy a ride in a horse drawn carriage. You can visit Moors Valley Park where there are tree top walkways, or you can cycle around the woodlands. One place you will not want to miss is the walks along the Jurassic Coastline taking in sites such as Lulworth Cove and Durdle door, located approximately 1 hour from the property. Beach 20 miles. Say hello to Hazel Cottage, a beautiful, 400-year-old Grade II listed thatched cottage refurbished in 2023 to a high standard and ready to welcome you on your next holiday. Step through the original front door into the living/dining room, be sure to mind your head as the ceilings have been kept to the traditional height. It’s the perfect spot to cosy up on the plush sofa or snuggle in the armchair and watch the roar of the open fire in the inglenook fireplace. Head through to the bedroom where you will find a spacious super kingsize bed (can be made into twins upon request), plus a fabulous window seat to sit on and read a book or watch the daily village life! Off the living room, head through to the more modern extension that houses the kitchen and shower room. The kitchen comes extremely well equipped with everything you could possible need during your stay, whether you are creating a sumptuous meal or a light snack! Outside, you have your own section of the owner’s large garden to enjoy, with table and chairs to enjoy an al fresco breakfast or a sundowner after a busy day exploring the area.
Hazel Cottage is located in the peaceful village of Briantspuddle (twice voted Dorset’s best kept small village) with direct access to a vast network of countryside footpaths, bridleways and quiet country lanes, ideal for exploring the beautiful countryside be it woodland, heathland or riverside.
Speaking of the area, there is so much to see and do nearby, you will need to book another stay to fit it all in! Within a 10-minute drive you have Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre, The Tank Museum,Clouds Hill (the rural retreat of T.E Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia), Thomas Hardy’s Cottage, Sculpture by the Lakes and Athelhampton House and Gardens. A 20-minute drive will take you to the world famous Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, or inland to Dorchester with its museum and Duchy village of Poundbury.
The beaches of Weymouth and Bournemouth are both within a 45-minute drive of Hazel Cottage. Weymouth has on offer its Sea Life Centre, sandy beach and traditional town and harbour, while Bournemouth has its wonderful pier, fabulous beach and a myriad of restaurants to explore. Poole Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world, is worth a visit as is Corfe Castle and Swanage.

Located in Chideock, between Bridport and West Bay to the east and Lyme Regis to the west, this holiday home is the main part of the owners’ detached house with an adjoining self-contained annexe for the owners use. It is ideally situated for enjoying and exploring west Dorset and the famous scenic World Heritage Jurassic Coast, and has a large, enclosed, lawned garden with a patio overlooking fields and footpaths towards Seatown. Wander over the fields to the coast at Seatown and enjoy some superb scenic coastal walking up to the top of Golden Cap the highest point in the south of England. Lyme Regis offers a great day or two out, with its picturesque harbour, sandy beach and famous Cob, where you can pass the time fossil hunting, boating, fishing, swimming, walking, exploring the quaint character shops, or simply wining and dining. Inland perhaps enjoy a cream tea at the Broadwindsor Craft Centre, or travel further afield to south Somerset and visit historic Forde Abbey and Gardens.
