Hayling Island is a traditional seaside resort with amusements for all ages. It is well known for its sailing activities, and is sheltered by the Isle of Wight, making it ideal for water sports. It is renowned for its windsurfing and sailing, kayaking, power boating, jet skiing, kitesurfing and wake boarding. Local paddle-boating and windsurfing lessons are available close by. Every year there is a national windsurfing event, and a hive of sailing and nautical activity can be seen along the coastline. The Hayling Billy Trail, which starts at the former railway line, is a pleasant amble overlooking Langstone Harbour.
