The nearest town is Stockbridge, 3 miles, with its abundance of independent specialist shops including tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, many serving local produce, as well as art galleries, craft and gift shops, clothing and traditional butchers. The prosperous market town of Romsey is 7 miles, and being the larger of the two towns, it has all of the above and more. Romsey also has an independent department store, supermarket and a magnificent Norman Abbey dating back to 907AD. Just outside the town and set in extensive parkland is the 18th century mansion of Broadlands, the former home of Lord Palmerston and the late Lord Louis Mountbatten. Broadlands is open to the public July and August, as well as hosting a range of shows, concerts and events throughout the year. An open-plan handmade kitchen with spacious dining table and all mod cons, including range master oven and superb coffee maker; opens out to a small outside courtyard with bistro table and chairs for your morning coffee in the sunshine. The living room area is calm and comfortable whilst the small wood burner will warm the room on those frosty nights.
Two gorgeous bedrooms with luxury duvets and linen on the first floor will sleep up to 4 adults, whilst pull out beds can accommodate another 2 children if needed. A beautifully designed bathroom with roll-top bath and large separate rainfall shower is shared between the two bedrooms.

The Old Cook House is a detached bungalow set in the grounds of the owners’ smallholding in a quaint setting in Winchester. This ground floor property offers peaceful and welcoming accommodation for a family or group wanting to explore this charming rural location, whilst also being within easy reach of the coast.
The Old Cook House is perfect for a family of four, with the main bedroom offering a kingsize bed and the second bedroom with twin beds. The bungalow also offers a well-equipped kitchen, bathroom with L shaped bath and shower over, as well as a cosy living area complete with a feature fireplace (ornamental purposes only), and a Smart TV. There is also the benefit of a boot room for when you need to dry off your dog. Outside, there is a private seating area which is the perfect place to sit back, relax and take in the surroundings. We welcome two small dogs over 18 months.

The property is set in a quiet semi-rural location with walks directly from the property and a recreation ground within 5 minutes’ walk with plenty equipment for young children, football pitch and tennis court. From here there are footpaths with views of neighbouring farmland and villages. In the opposite direction there are walks with views of Winchester Cathedral and the local supermarket is just a 10-minute walk away. Historic Winchester is under 3 miles away with various museums including The Great Hall with the Round Table. Marwell Zoo and Winchester Science Centre with planetarium are within a 15-minute drive of The Old Cook House. Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market is very popular with it’s bustling atmosphere and wooden chalets with food, drinks and crafts for sale. Peppa Pig World and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are both within a 40 minute drive. There are two golf courses within 2 miles, and one golf course within walking distance.

During the First World War, the village was used by the army which had an extensive veterinary hospital for horses. After the war the camps were split up into agricultural small holdings and the army huts were used as dwellings; part of this cottage was the army cook house, hence the name. There were many huts here in the 1960’s however The Old Cook House is the only remaining army hut in the area. Much modernisation has been carried out over the years to make it a modern holiday home for families to enjoy.

The Chapel is a delightful, detached property offering lots of space for a couple. With a vaulted ceiling, beautiful large windows and a galleried bedroom overlooking the ground floor, it really does offer a rather impressive outlook. The space downstairs comprises an open plan living/dining area and kitchen, with a ground floor bathroom. There is a wood burner you can enjoy on those chillier evenings. Outside, the garden has seating, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee.
Owslebury is a picturesque village situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, with fantastic walks and cycle tracks right on the doorstep. If you fancy a night off from cooking, the village pub is just a 30-minute stroll offering a gastro food menu and a variety of lagers, real ales, and wines. The historic cathedral city of Winchester is a 15-minute drive. It boasts many historic attractions such as Winchester Cathedral, King Arthur’s Round Table and Jane Austen’s House. The city is also host to many events throughout the year including street theatre, jazz festivals and outdoor cinema and film events. Winchester is also known for its Christmas market with outdoor ice rink. Wander round the cobbled streets of Winchester and you will stumble across some of the best boutique shops and home to a thriving food scene. Market stalls, street food and farmer’s markets are frequently found too.
The local area around offers a great choice of shooting grounds and fishing lakes, and a selection of golf courses. A little further afield visit the historic dockyard city of Portsmouth and its brand retail outlet, Gunwharf Quays, is just a 30-minute drive away. Fifteen miles away is The New Forest National Park, which has something for everyone - beautiful scenery, wildlife, pub lunches, historic buildings, walks and cycle ways. You could also do a day trip to The Isle of Wight, just a ferry trip from Lymington or Southampton.
