These four superb holiday cottages nestle on the borders of Herefordshire and Worcestershire and are located on a 700-acre estate on the beautiful west side of the Malvern Hills. Netherley Hall Estate is a family-run farm specialising in the breeding of cattle and sheep and the surrounding area offers marvellous woodland walks.

The cottages are within 15 minutes’ drive of Malvern and have panoramic views of the wooded hills and unspoilt countryside; the location is ideal for nature enthusiasts, with an abundance of wildlife to observe as well as unrivalled birdwatching.

Three of the cottages are detached, whilst the fourth one is semi-detached, and the English oak timber used to restore their interiors was felled and machined from the extensive woodland on the estate itself. The furnishings and fittings for all the cottages have been supplied by local businesses, and during restoration, the owners have paid great attention to detail.
Parkers (ref RAAP) was originally built in 1610 and is a detached, listed building lovingly restored to the very highest standard and has several items of antique furniture. Parkers Lodge (ref RAAQ) is a smaller two-bedroomed detached cottage completed in 2006 and fitted out to a very high standard, whilst Brook House (ref RAAR) is a detached, listed building dating from around 1670 and emanates a marvellous ambience. It has landscaped gardens and a terrace with outstanding views overlooking Mathon Brook. The Bothy (ref UK12100) is semi-detached and was renovated in 2019. It has a kitchen/dining room, and through the archway there is a comfortable living room with French doors opening out to a beautiful garden area, with views over the farmland and farm animals.

Attractions to visit near the cottages include the Malvern Hills, Three Counties Showground and Malvern Theatre, as well as farm shops, gardens, gift shops, picnic areas and walking trails. Fishing, golf and horse riding are also available, as well as pick your own fruit (in season). Quabbs Head Cottage, before it was renovated, extended and restored, was an isolated ‘two up, two down’ country cottage. It is unknown when exactly it was built, but it is shown on the 1840 Herefordshire Tithe Map, and it seems to have been built originally in the 14th or 15th century. It is located approximately half a mile from the nearest property, with views to open country, and beneath ancient deciduous woodland, in the heart of what is now the Netherley Hall Estate. It is shown on the 1840 Tithe Map as ‘Quabhead Cottage’. Quabb’s Head means literally the ‘the head of the bog’. The original gable wall has been lovingly restored, and the extensions have been built, with oak from ancient estate woodland. On the ground floor, you’ll find two beautifully appointed bedrooms, each designed to offer a restful night’s sleep. These bedrooms are perfect for grandparents or older family members who may prefer to have their accommodations on the ground level, providing convenience and easy access to the main living areas. The deluxe bathroom on the ground floor includes a walk-in shower. There are some lovely walks from the door, particularly to Garway Hill, said to be the most beautiful place in Herefordshire, offering stunning views over 5 surrounding counties. The cottage is also ideally placed for you to experience canoeing along the Wye River, swimming in the River Monnow, or hiking on Offa’s Dyke or The Three Castles Way. Horse-riding, rock climbing, canoeing, fishing and caving are all within easy reach in the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The cottage is also close to the Forest of Dean with its cycling paths, picnic sites, Sculpture Trail and family attractions such as Go Ape. A 20-minute drive away is the cathedral city of Hereford, and the market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, which host a variety of quality restaurants and independent shops. For sightseeing, memorable days out can be had at the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, the Roman Caerleon, and Goodrich, Raglan or Eastnor Castles. If you want to get away from the television there is another living space in the glorious sunroom, which has folding glass doors leading out onto the south-facing front patio. There is a ground-floor toilet and a separate utility room with a tumble dryer. On the first floor you will find three bedrooms, one with a super kingsize bed, and two with twin beds. The bathroom has the best views from the cottage and has a stand-alone roll-top bath, shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet. Off-road parking for up to three cars is available in the gravel yard opposite the cottage, just across the road, where there are also some fruit trees.

Beyond your beautiful abode is a plethora of wonderful places to visit; within a short drive are Hereford and Gloucester, and about an hour’s drive are The Cotswolds, Cheltenham, Ludlow, and Cardiff. When visiting Ross-on-Wye, no trip would be complete without a visit to Symonds Yat, a magical
spot on the River Wye just 2 miles from The Old Bakehouse. Start at the top of the rock for panoramic views and breath-taking scenery. Stroll down through the woodland to reach the water’s edge to enjoy a yummy pub lunch. If you don’t have your own canoe or kayak, why not hire one and paddle your way down the Wye?
