The bright lights of Blackpool are just 4 miles away and can be reached on foot following the promenade along the seafront. Here you’ll find its many attractions including, Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Zoo. Just a few miles further will take you to the rolling sand dunes of Lytham St Anne’s and the cosmopolitan Lytham which holds annual events such as The Proms and a kite festival. Venture inland and you’ll find the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known for its picturesque country villages, wonderful walking and friendly local pubs. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is also within easy reach as is the Lake District National Park.

The Forest of Bowland, which is one of the UK’s designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covers over 300 square miles of rural Lancashire, and North Yorkshire is right on the doorstep. Other popular walks include Pendle Hill and the Tolkien Trail. The Forest of Gisburn is just 12 miles away. Other popular activities nearby include golf, fishing and swimming.

The Beacon Fell Country Park consists of 271 acres of woodland, moorland and farmland. The Beacon Fell summit is 873 feet above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay. On a clear day it is even possible to see the Isle of Man. The Forest of Bowland is 23 miles away, here you will find mountain bike trail at Gisburn Forest, with green, blue, red and black routes available. Glide easily along the mellow trail by Bottoms Beck, twist and shout through Park Wood, dance with your bike down Hully Gully or grit your teeth and rush down the Bigfoot slab, everyone should find something that will make them smile.

The world renowned Tolkein Trail starts and ends in nearby Hurst Green, meaning literary enthusiasts can discover the Ribble landscape that may have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. A dog friendly pub serving food is around a 10-minute walk from the cottage. In the Ribble valley you can explore Clitheroe Castle Museum, former the Steward’s House, a Grade II listed building that was built in the 18th century and in the small town of Longridge just 8 miles away you’ll find a selection of supermarkets, cafés, takeaways, pubs serving food and even a quaint cinema.

For those wishing to venture further afield, both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks can be reached in around an hour, or the beautiful Fylde Coast and sand dunes of Lytham St Annes, can be reached within a 30-minute drive. Blackpool is 20 miles away with the Sandcastle Waterpark, the UK’s largest Indoor Waterpark with more than 18 fantastic slides and attractions in a tropical 84 degree climate and Blackpool Pleasure Beach where you can find one of the UK’s tallest fastest roller coasters. Whether you spend your time relaxing in the hot tub, or exploring the beautiful countryside and wealth of attractions, Adamsons Barn makes a fantastic base. Beach 20 miles. Belmont is a wonderful detached bungalow that can be found in the small village of Hesketh Bank, just 20 minutes from the Victorian seaside resort of Southport. Bright, airy, spacious and newly renovated in 2020, it’s a wonderful base for couples and families, and their four legged friends. Hesketh Bank itself is home to ample local amenities including a high end supermarket, farm shop and takeaway. In the neighbouring village of Tarleton you’ll also find a café and a couple of pubs serving good food.

An area popular with bird watchers and nature lovers, the Ribble Estuary Natural Nature Reserve is 5,000 acres of salt marsh and is less than 3 miles away. It’s home to an impressive range of wildlife, with more than a quarter of a million migrating water birds feeding in and around the estuary. There’s also Hesketh Out Marsh, Marshside and Martin Mere Nature Reserve all easily accessible.

For lovers of the great outdoors, a network of footpaths and dedicated cycle routes radiate from the area, and in Southport you can pick up the Trans Pennine Trail. The popular seaside town of Southport has lots to offer, including 22 miles of coastline and the second longest pleasure pier in the British Isles. There are shops, bars and mouth-watering restaurants, together with traditional seaside amusements, a cinema and an indoor water park. The train station in Southport provides easy access to both Liverpool and Chester for anyone craving the bright lights and culture of a big city.

Other places of interest nearby include the National Trust’s Rufford Old Hall (10 mins) and the National Trust’s Formby, a glorious beach with dramatic sand dunes, surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods (40 mins). Slightly further afield, the Ribble Valley and city of Lancaster can both be reached in about an hour, and just a little bit further again is the southern Lake District National Park or the Forest of Bowland (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Cleveleys seafront is home to the Mythic Coast Artwork trail, where striking giant sculptures bring to life ’The Sea Swallow’ story. The vast beach is made up of sand and shingle, and you’ll find traditional past times of sandcastle building, and kite flying are as popular as ever. A few miles inland is the neighbouring village of Thornton, where you’ll find more shops, pubs and restaurants together with an 18th Century windmill and Wyre Estuary Country Park. The bright lights of Blackpool, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Tower are just 4 miles round the coast, and a few miles further you’ll reach the beautiful sandy beaches of St Annes and, wonderfully cosmopolitan, Lytham.
