Heysham village boasts The Royal Hotel having a sound reputation for great food with a large outdoor bar and seating area to enjoy the summer months. There’s a couple of quaint tea rooms and Glebe Gardens in the grounds of St. Peters Church overlooking the bay is worth a visit. From the village, you can also walk to Half Moon Bay, a sandy beach with grass-covered dunes and low cliffs.
The Haven, a cosy and inviting cottage, is accessed via an external stone staircase. A small hallway leads to the elegant living room where you will find plenty of comfortable seating, an electric fire, and a Smart TV, perfect for cosy nights in after exploring the area. Across the hallway is the dining area with seating for four, as well as a sideboard with board games and a retro radio which also plays vinyl records. In the kitchen, there are all the modern conveniences, and the kitchen also leads to the outdoor seating area. A spacious master bedroom with a king size bed is located on the first floor, the room is elegantly furnished to enhance the original stained-glass windows, this room also has a Smart TV. The second bedroom is accessed via a low head height doorway, the children will love it, and adults will need to take care, this room has a double bed and plenty of storage. There is a WC on this floor plus a full family bathroom adjacent. The bathroom benefits from a shower cubicle, bath, WC and sink.
Outside there is plenty of seating for four, the perfect spot for enjoying a morning coffee or indeed a glass of your favourite tipple in the evenings.
Heysham was a quiet farming and fishing community until 1904 when Heysham Port opened. The village, dating back to Viking times, still has a historic old centre, a delightful maze of winding lanes and picturesque cottages. Discover ST Patrick’s 8th century chapel and iconic rock hewn graves on the dramatic headlands overlooking the bay. In the old centre of the village is Heysham Heritage Centre, housed in part of what was originally a long house it is an unusual example of surviving 17th century village architecture and tells the story of the village’s architecture and past industry in a series of exhibitions. Near the heritage centre there are two cafés, a quirky retro café serving a wide range of interesting cakes and lunches, and the other is known for its traditional homemade fudge. On the same road is a 16th century coaching inn that offers an extensive menu in its popular restaurant, real ales in the covered and heated garden bar. A four-piece bathroom is also on this floor having a corner bath and shower cubicle. There is one small parking space to the rear of the property and additional parking on the road in front. Two small dogs are also welcomed to this property.
Morecambe is a seaside resort with a sandy beach and long promenade. On the north end of the promenade, you can find Happy Mount Park, open all year round. A traditional park with an adventure playground, summer splash area, sports pitches, events, and cafe. On the southern end of the promenade an internationally renowned Art Deco hotel, designed by Oliver Hill and restored for the 21st century. Non-residents can enjoy sophisticated glamour, afternoon tea and classy cocktails here. For wetter days or evening entertainment, a bowling alley is located on Central Promenade with its ten bowling lanes, a restaurant and a bar. If you wish to venture further, historic Lancaster is a short drive away. Lancaster Castle is a must see, as is a visit to Willamson Park and Butterfly House. West End Bay is ideally located for a trip to Yorkshire Dales, Forest of Bowland and of course The Lake District which are all areas of outstanding natural beauty.
