Surrounded by open countryside Curlew Barn is a superbly appointed converted property providing comfortable holiday accommodation on two levels. Formerly the ‘wing’ of Curlew Lodge it has been converted to provide excellent holiday accommodation. For the more energetic there are walks and cycle routes throughout the area as well as a competition standard tennis court within the grounds. The Granary provides a very good standard of accommodation in the pretty and peaceful village of Aisby. Situated near the end of a no through road, this renovated detached cottage has its own private walled garden with a gated entrance, and is suitable for couples, friends and families alike. Numerous walks and cycle routes are close at hand, and a lovely country pub, with beams, log fires, fine real ales and delicious food, is only a 15-minute stroll away. For those wishing to explore further afield, Stamford, Lincoln, Newark, Oakham and Uppingham offer NT houses, castles, museums, antique centres, and numerous pubs and restaurants. Those interested in WW2 can visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and the Lincolnshire Aviation Centre, which are a few miles east of the market town of Sleaford. There are also numerous golf courses nearby including the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa, and Rutland Water offers various water sports throughout the year, the circular track around the reservoir provides easy walking and cycling for all ages with bikes available for hire. Set in the peaceful village of North Somercotes on the Lincolnshire coast between Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes, this detached bungalow, situated close to the owner’s home, offers an ideal location for a relaxing holiday or a comfortable base from which to explore the area. North Somercotes is one of the larger villages in the area and has several shops, takeaways, 2 pubs, a licensed restaurant, hairdressers and beauty facilities. North Somercotes is 15 miles south of Cleethorpes, a popular holiday resort including the theme park Pleasure Island, the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway and other attractions. The village is only 8 miles from the Georgian town of Louth which still boasts 3 markets a week, with the very impressive St James Church, Hubbards Hills picnic area and beauty spot, as well as a cinema, leisure centre and many excellent restaurants and pubs. Mablethorpe, 11 miles, is only a short drive away and has sandy beaches along with all your normal seaside attractions including a fun fair and amusements. Grimsby has a Fishing Heritage Centre, as well as very good shopping facilities. Donna Nook Seal Sanctuary is within 2 miles and from late October to late December seals congregate to have their pups here (1798 pups in 2014). Seals are very close to the public viewing areas, making Donna Nook one of the most accessible sites for seeing seals breeding in the UK. It attracts 40,000 visitors a year. Good walks and cycle routes are straight from the door with fishing and golf courses all within a short drive. Riverbank cottage is a detached, comfortable family and couples retreat set on the west bank of the river Trent, ideal for those looking for a peaceful holiday or a base from which to explore this historic area. The cottage sleeps six adults and two children comfortably.
The first floor comprises of a sitting room with views overlooking the river, a family bathroom, a twin bedroom, a double room and a children’s room with a small single and a pull-out bed, only suitable for children, not adults. The ground floor benefits from a twin bedroom, a shower room with a toilet, a utility room, a TV snug and a dining kitchen. The cottage has an enclosed garden with a south-facing patio, garden furniture, barbeque, cycle store and parking for 1-2 cars accessed by an 8ft wide drive.
Although Althorpe has lost its pub there are many restaurants and eateries in the area including the excellent Ferryboat in the next village. Many shops and restaurants are available nearby, all within three miles along the A18 east.
There are many good walks and cycle routes and several golf courses only a short drive away. Interesting places to visit include Epworth, the birthplace of John Wesley founder of Methodism, the award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Normanby Hall and many wildlife and bird reserves. Lincoln, York, Beverley, Cleethorpes and Hull the 2017 City of Culture all less than an hour away.
