    The medieval city of York and Newcastle are less than an hour away, as is the wonderful east coast should you decide to have a day at the beach. For a day at home, you can run around the 3-acre field, or play football due to the size of the garden. The garden and field are completely enclosed so dogs and children can play freely. Alternatively, if you wanted to leave the car and have a day exploring there are plenty of picturesque walks right on Mill Cottages’ doorstep along with a superb village pub offering a variety of local ales and good old pub grub. Also accessible for alternative days out are the Lake District, the Trough of Bowland and of course, all of the glorious scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
    The village of Malham, 7 miles, is worth a visit with amazing natural spectacles including Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet’s Foss. Ilkley is 14 miles away, and is famous for its Cow and Calf Rocks up on Ilkley Moor. The town is also host to the well-known and popular Betty’s Tea Room, and there is a good selection of independent shops. The pretty market town of Settle, 12 miles, can be reached by train from Gargrave, and has a market square, variety of shops and cafés and of course, the famous Settle-Carlisle railway.
    For the shopaholics you can get a train from Gargrave through to the city of Leeds where you will find an abundance of shops and The Royal Armouries. Shop and restaurant ¼ mile, pub 100 yards.
