It has an open plan living area with a welcoming wood burner to snuggle up in front of after a busy day out exploring the spectacular Yorkshire coast and countryside, and upon arrival you will be welcomed with a lovely welcome pack with tea, coffee and biscuits. There are lovely views from the property onto the garden and the bedroom window overlooks the paddock, where sheep graze.

The picturesque village of Thornton le Dale is located on the edge of the North York Moors, a mere one mile from Pickering. From here you can take a ride on the famous steam train to Grosmont, Goathland (aka Aidensfield in the classic TV series Heartbeat) and the seaside town of Whitby where you can climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. Those looking for a quieter pace of life may prefer to walk the many footpaths and bridleways over the North York Moors.

Nearby, the historic town of Bedale, 2½ miles, offers a weekly market every Tuesday and various events during the year, together with a range of individual shops, restaurants and pubs. Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. Nestled away and surrounded by fields and farmland, just outside the popular Yorkshire village of Middleham, Curlew Barn is the perfect destination for guests wanting to enjoy a quiet, romantic break. Only a mile and a half away from the famous horse racing town of Middleham, guests will find many excellent quality local pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance as well as cafes, tea rooms and a convenience store. Steeped in history, Middleham Castle was once the home of Richard III and its remains are a popular attraction for tourists. Also well known for its horse racing links, guests will be able to watch the world class racehorses being ridden through the centre of Middleham and out into ’the gallops’ at the edge of the village. The barn is also close to East Witton, a quiet village with two pubs and from which you can enjoy a pleasant, low level walk to Jervaulx Abbey.

A little further afield but still within walking distance, guests will find footpaths leading up hills and down dales, through natural, unspoilt woodland and open countryside, to many attractive Yorkshire towns and villages situated just a few miles away. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty really does offer some of the most magnificent scenery and stunning views, and should be visited at all times of the year just to appreciate the sheer beauty of the landscape. The Forbidden Corner is only a few miles away and really must be explored by guests of all ages.
