The Heritage Coast of Yorkshire and Whitby are easily accessed, and you can take a leisurely journey through the Esk Valley. Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington can be found a little further afield. A must when visiting this area are the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay. Brewers Cottage nestles in the grounds of Cropton Brewery in the sleepy hamlet of Cropton within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Dating back almost 200 years this terraced holiday cottage offers modern, contemporary accommodation, yet retains many of the original features. The brewery was developed in 1984 and offers tours to sample some of the fine ales on offer. Ideally located for walking, cycling and exploring the heather clad moors. If coastal walks and stunning beaches are in order, you’ll find the Heritage Coast just 18 miles away, including Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Tucked away in the peaceful village of Felixkirk, this cosy, dog-friendly holiday cottage adjoins the owner’s home and provides a very comfortable rural retreat on the very edge of the North York Moors National Park, near Thirsk. This brick-built, single-storey cottage is a hidden gem offering a very private stay whilst enjoying an enviable position near to the award-winning, dog-friendly Carpenters Arms pub and is 5 minutes by car from the nearby market town of Thirsk. It has been completely renovated internally in December 2019 and externally over the summer of 2020.
The cottage offers beautifully presented accommodation for two guests and their pets. There is a small double bedroom with under-bed storage, and a sofa bed for alternative sleeping arrangements in the living room. There is extensive garden space outside the cottage with stunning views, which is also fully fenced to allow your pets to wander in a contained area. Access to a larger field is also provided. Car parking for two cars is available next to the cottage, which is at the end of a private tarmac and gravelled driveway. There is also separate secure storage available for bicycles.
The owners are keen walkers, runners and cyclists and can advise of lovely local and regional routes and provide local dog friendly walk guides for your use. From the doorstep there are numerous footpaths and cycling trails and the renowned, traditional, dog friendly village inn serves local produce just minutes from the cottage. The village is home to a 4x4 driving centre which offers action packed days with off-road driver training and quad biking, and at Sutton Bank, visitors can take a trial lesson at the Yorkshire Gliding Club and visit the nearby famous White Horse near Kilburn. Thirsk, 3 miles, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Thirsk is also home to a well-known racecourse and 15th century church.
Days out can be enjoyed at Rievaulx Abbey near the wonderful town of Helmsley, as well as Castle Howard and Fountains Abbey. Board the steam train at Pickering to be transported through the stunning North York Moors to the coastal port of Whitby and explore the fishing villages at Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes. The North Yorkshire Moors and also the Yorkshire Dales are easily accessible by car and the historic walled city of York is only 25 miles away, with its iconic minster, exquisite architecture, museums and art galleries, and is not to be missed when visiting Yorkshire. There are two pubs situated in Rosedale alongside two cafés on the village green, all serving delicious local produce. This is a lovely walking route from Craven Garth Cottages either by the quiet road or via the old railway line. The village boasts the fun and challenging Rosedale Abbey Golf Course, welcome to all abilities and open Easter to October. The Golf Course is situated next to Chimney Bank, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Rosedale. Also in the village is a contemporary glass studio, open to visitors all year round, selling handmade glass art made on-site.

Rosedale is perfect for enjoying anything outdoors, and the varied landscape provides endless footpaths where you can enjoy spectacular scenery. The owners can provide many local walking maps if required. The famous ‘Old Ironstone Railway’ walk runs all the way around the valley, and you can stop off at the lovely inn en-route for some local ales and traditional food, before continuing onwards to Rosedale Village. The area is increasingly favoured by cyclists, who are also welcome to cycle the old railway line. The Yorkshire Cycle Hub is 12 miles away at Fryup, offering cycle hire, alongside an excellent café where you can enjoy a piece of cake before setting off on your ride. Dalby Forest is well worth a visit and is also great for cycling, offering cycle hire and other adventure activities.

During your stay be sure to visit Ampleforth Abbey with its serene Abbey Church and grounds to explore at your leisure. Parking and entry is free, and Ampleforth boasts a great shop and tea room. Nearby Hutton-le-Hole, a picturesque village, offers a fantastic day out and even has its own Chocolate Factory. Visit Ryedale Folk Museum and sample the popular local ice cream and take a paddle in the stream. Fancy a stately home? Then look no further than Castle Howard, well worth a trip and a beautiful day out. The cottage is also within easy reach of Pickering with its many attractions including The North York Moors Railway which goes all the way to Whitby, where you can enjoy possibly the most famous fish and chips in the UK.

Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond.
