An upside down house, the three bedrooms are on the ground floor, along with two bathrooms, with windows giving gorgeous glimpses of the stunning local scenery, even whilst you lie in bed. The inner hallway area has been turned into a library with maps and booklets of the local area, detailing wonderful walking routes to suit every ability. Entrance to the house is via a boot room, ideal for sorting your muddy boots, coats and dogs after a busy day exploring the Dales. Upstairs, you’ll be wowed by 360 degree views of the valley with each window framing a different part, immersing you in one of the most spectacular and beautiful limestone landscapes in the country, whilst snuggled up in front of the wood burner.
The open plan living space on the first floor features a brand new, fully fitted kitchen with Bosch appliances, as well as a dining area and living area. Here you will also find the piano used by previous owners to rehearse with the local choir. Outside, the garden has been beautifully landscaped to create two sitting areas at either side of the house so you can follow the sun all day. There is a garage, perfect for storing your bikes.
The pièce de résistance is the original well, which has been uncovered and fitted with lights so you can see 100 feet down to the bottom at night, a truly unique feature. The pretty village of Starbotton is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with a cluster of stone built, chocolate box cottages surrounding the friendly local pub, a mere 2 minutes’ walk away. The Fox and Hounds is the heart of the local community, offering high quality, hearty dining, with well-kept local ales in a relaxed, dog friendly atmosphere. The area is ideally located for exploring by car, walking and cycling.
There are many walks right from your very doorstep including the Dales Way, accessed by a connecting footpath leading down to the River Wharfe, which is just 300 yards away. The area is also a mecca for cyclists with the Tour De Yorkshire route having run through locally. Other country pursuits such as fishing, rock climbing and even pony trekking are all available nearby. The popular town of Grassington is just a 15-minute drive away and plays host to events all year round including a Summer Arts Festival with famed singers, presenters, poets and authors, and a winter Dickensian Festival to capture the spirit of Christmas.
The bustling market town of Skipton, 16 miles or 30 minutes drive away, has a great selection of shops and cafés, alongside delightful bars and restaurants dotted along cobbled streets. From here, you can tour the amazing Norman castle and take a boat trip along the canal. The Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Forest of Bowland and Harrogate are all within an hour’s drive. This charming cottage is ideal for walkers, book lovers, and those who like strolling to pubs with real atmosphere and good food, or who just want to soak up all that a beautiful Yorkshire Dales village and river valley has to offer. The detached stone property was built in 1652, and sits quietly in Kettlewell, in the heart of the National Park. Cam Cottage is ideally placed for varied walking from the front door, it is set against a backdrop of striking scenery and makes a perfect year-round retreat in which to relax, with a south-facing enclosed front patio and planting along the length of the property. The pretty flower-bed across the lane belongs to the cottage, behind are pretty neighbouring gardens and lovely views along steep-sided Wharfedale.
Between 100 to 250 yards away are five eateries including award-winning and affordable pubs and restaurants, as well as a well-stocked village shop. Grassington, a picturesque town is just 7 miles away, and plays host to a Summer Arts Festival with famed singers, presenters, poets and authors, and a winter Dickensian Festival, to conjure for you the true spirit of Christmas. Its cobbled streets offer a selection of individual country shops, pubs and restaurants. Skipton, a bustling market town, just over 14 miles away, has a wide sweeping high street, from where you can tour the amazing Norman castle or take a soothing trip along the canal. Shorter outings from Kettlewell also cover the unsung delights of the National Trust’s Braithwaite Hall and English Heritage’s Middleham Castle, as well as the splendours of Bolton Abbey and Malham Cove. For day-trips, the beauties of Wensleydale and the historic spa towns of Ilkley and Harrogate are within easy reach. Shop 300 yards, pub 200 yards, restaurant 350 yards.

Or enjoy a morning coffee, or evening glass of wine in the Sun Room which runs along the front of the house, overlooking a beautiful, sloping, country garden and the miles of Dales views beyond. The Old School House features a cosy sitting room downstairs with a wood burning stove and smart TV. With Wi-Fi throughout, you will always be able to research your local adventures! On the first floor choose from a super king size bedroom or double bedroom, both showcasing the stunning Dales view. In addition, you’ll find a bathroom with shower, toilet, and hand basin.

Kettlewell itself is an absolute gem; a small village that oozes charm and leaves you with little reason to venture too far! A village shop, two pubs serving lovely food, two charming cafes and an ice cream parlour in summer. All with the River Wharfe running through it for paddling in, as well as access to walks in every direction. When you’re ready to explore you will find within an hour’s drive- Fountains Abbey (National Trust), Brimham Rocks (National Trust) and Bolton Abbey, or explore underground at Stump Cross Caverns, climb to the top of Malham Cove, or go cheese tasting at the Wensleydale Creamery. With plenty of pretty villages and towns in the area too, you’ll be back to explore them all!
