    Craven Garth Cottages are located in Rosedale, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, on a family run working farm. All the cottages have been lovingly converted from old farm buildings and barns, and still retain much of their original character. Each property offers cosy, comfortable and well-equipped accommodation, providing an ideal base from which to explore the local moors and stunning coastline. There is a large paddock and gardens to unwind in and enjoy the stunning views and sunsets.

    Rosedale offers a warm welcome to all ages, and is popular year round with families, walkers and cyclists alike. There are two pubs situated in Rosedale alongside two cafés on the village green, all serving delicious local produce. This is a lovely walking route from Craven Garth Cottages either by the quiet road or via the old railway line. The village boasts the fun and challenging Rosedale Abbey Golf Course, welcome to all abilities and open Easter to October. The Golf Course is situated next to Chimney Bank, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Rosedale. Also in the village is a contemporary glass studio, open to visitors all year round, selling handmade glass art made on-site.

    Rosedale is perfect for enjoying anything outdoors, and the varied landscape provides endless footpaths where you can enjoy spectacular scenery. The owners can provide many local walking maps if required. The famous ‘Old Ironstone Railway’ walk runs all the way around the valley, and you can stop off at the lovely inn en-route for some local ales and traditional food, before continuing onwards to Rosedale Village. The area is increasingly favoured by cyclists, who are also welcome to cycle the old railway line. The Yorkshire Cycle Hub is 12 miles away at Fryup, offering cycle hire, alongside an excellent café where you can enjoy a piece of cake before setting off on your ride. Dalby Forest is well worth a visit and is also great for cycling, offering cycle hire and other adventure activities.

    During your stay be sure to visit Ampleforth Abbey with its serene Abbey Church and grounds to explore at your leisure. Parking and entry is free, and Ampleforth boasts a great shop and tea room. Nearby Hutton-le-Hole, a picturesque village, offers a fantastic day out and even has its own Chocolate Factory. Visit Ryedale Folk Museum and sample the popular local ice cream and take a paddle in the stream. Fancy a stately home? Then look no further than Castle Howard, well worth a trip and a beautiful day out. The cottage is also within easy reach of Pickering with its many attractions including The North York Moors Railway which goes all the way to Whitby, where you can enjoy possibly the most famous fish and chips in the UK.

In December they even have a themed Christmas Santa Special on the steam train. One of the highlights on the calendar in Pickering is the annual War Weekend, where as well as battle re-enactments, there is live music and the town seems to slip back in time. The surrounding North Yorkshire Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Dalby Forest has a choice of trails for cyclists as well as walkers, plus for thrill seekers you have the Go Ape zip lines through the tree tops. Nearby you have Malton the food capital of Yorkshire with a market, award-winning restaurants and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. This cottage benefits from off street private parking located at the rear of the property, and a small south westerly facing enclosed private courtyard with seating area to enjoy breakfasts or evening drinks alfresco. Inside you are greeted by a bright and cosy open plan living area, with a well-equipped kitchen, a dining table with chairs and bench seating. The living area is complete with a wood burner. In an evening you can unwind on the comfortable seating around the Smart TV with Sky TV and access to Freeview, Netflix and Amazon prime, or pick up a book of local interest from the bookshelf.
