The property has a modern contemporary feel with no expense spared by the owners. This has to be a ’one off’ property in this area, there are not many houses that sleep eight guests in four bedrooms that have so much space for everyone. Entrance is gained into the hallway flowing through to the spacious living area with comfortable sofas and a large Smart TV, giving a great place to snuggle up on those colder evenings with a glass or two of red wine. The designer kitchen/dining room features all the usual mod cons and is fully equipped for all your culinary needs. If cooking is not part of the holiday plan then there are many eateries close by that you can choose from. All four bedrooms have luxury bed linen aiding a perfect night’s sleep, meaning you are fully energised for the next day’s adventure. Situated just 4½ miles from the quaint market town of Thirsk, with its 15th-century church, original cinema, and renowned racecourse. The cobbled market square hosts a twice weekly market and is surrounded by individual shops, traditional inns and tea rooms. Alf Wight, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ lived here and the ‘World of James Herriot’ visitor centre gives a fascinating insight into the working life of this famous vet.
River Oak provides a perfect base from which to explore the wider area too, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west and the North York Moors to the east. Secluded yet surprisingly close to town, the seaside resort of Whitby is just a few miles away, easily accessible by car or on foot. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which carries its passengers from Pickering in the south northward to Grosmont, and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast.
