Golf courses and riding stables are found locally and the more energetic might like to tackle the nearby Cleveland Way long distance footpath, with its stunning views over land and sea. The inviting moorland countryside and picturesque villages of ‘Heartbeat’ fame are a joy to explore and a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway is a must.
A 30-minute drive up the coast leads to the many delights of Robin Hood’s Bay and the old port of Whitby, a fascinating historic town, traditionally associated with Count Dracula and in whose attractive harbour tall ships often lie at anchor. The great houses of Sledmere, Burton Agnes and Castle Howard are all within 20 miles of the cottages.

In a quiet location down a private drive, this second floor holiday apartment, renovated in 2020, is part of a converted mill set within Malhamdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and with the other properties enjoys 8 acres of private grounds in an idyllic setting. This apartment boasts fantastic views over the River Aire which feeds the trout lake and millstream, adding charm and life to the grounds. Malham Cove, with its limestone amphitheatre and the gorge of Gordale Scar, are within easy walking distance, as is Malham Tarn, one of the largest natural areas of water in Yorkshire. Also, Settle is close by, where you can take a trip on the Settle to Carlisle Railway. The house is next to the Quaker Church, which has now been converted into a popular Italian restaurant, originally the chaplain would have resided here with his family.

In addition there are beautiful walks to be taken from the door, an attractive duck pond and the stream down the road from the cottage, and for younger guests a play park within a few minutes’ walk.
