It’s not far to walk into the centre along the side of the estuary, you’ll find that you hardly need the car as it’s a perfect spot to get to all the amenities and see the sights of Whitby.
    Walk up the famous Whitby Abbey, with its 199 steps to get to the top. You will see many children counting them as they take each step. The cobbled streets are full of little shops, especially the Whitby Jet jewellery shops. This black gemstone became very popular when Queen Victoria wore it when mourning for her husband. The black jewellery also attracts goths when they hold their famous weekend in Whitby.
    The North Yorkshire Moors are on the doorstep, and the Cleveland Way passes through Whitby, so this is a great base for ramblers or hardened walkers. There’s so much to see and do, but if you do want to step outside of Whitby, why not go down the coast to Scarborough, or inland to the town of Pickering, famous for its steam railway.
