In addition there are beautiful walks to be taken from the door, an attractive duck pond and the stream down the road from the cottage, and for younger guests a play park within a few minutes’ walk.

Sycamore Cottage was originally a barn, dating from the heyday of the lead mining industry. It has been furnished to create a homely atmosphere and is the ideal property in which to kick back and relax. The charming garden is enclosed and provides a small lawn and a nice eating area, as well as a higher patio area with lovely views. Situated just a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of Grassington, it is on the Dales Way and so well placed for both long hill walking and easier riverside walking straight from the door.
Take advantage of Grassington’s wide selection of pubs, restaurants and cafés, together with interesting independent shops, or in the local town hall, you can play snooker or badminton. A little further afield lies the bustling market town of Skipton, where you can enjoy canal cruises, golf, or the indoor swimming pool. Although there are no great views from inside the property, the secluded and cosy interior, large communal kitchen, and great village location with parking for two cars, more than compensates. The Hideaway is a delightful, semi-detached, cosy cottage tucked away in a tranquil, secluded area within the quiet village of Hawsker. The cottage has undergone major renovation that has been completed to a very good standard, with tasteful décor and furnishings throughout. There is an enclosed private garden area outside that is perfect for your dog to run around in while you relax and enjoy a glass of wine. There’s also a barbecue area for making the most of the warm weather with eating out al-fresco style. An outdoor sofa and seating area complete this private garden.

Secluded yet surprisingly close to town, the seaside resort of Whitby is just a few miles away, easily accessible by car or on foot. The town is home to a jam-packed calendar of events which take place all year round, and you can take a tour bus to see the fascinating sites, which include the stunning Abbey and St Mary’s Church high above the cliffs. There are also regular boat cruises that offer a different aspect of the beautiful town from the water. A day trip to Robin Hood’s Bay is a must during your stay at The Hideaway. Just 3 miles away, the bay is full of character and charm, thanks to its cobbled, narrow streets and alleyways lined with an ecleclic mix of individually-run shops, pubs and tearooms, all set before a lovely beach that’s ideal for rock pooling and fossil hunting.

A little closer to home, Hawsker has a warm and cosy local pub that serves local food, and for the outdoorsy types, there’s a disused railway line only a few hundred yards away that stretches some 21 miles from Whitby to Scarborough.

The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, with over 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways that cobweb the rolling heather-clad moorland and meet in the pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which carries its passengers from Pickering in the south northward to Grosmont, and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast.
