The cottage has been beautifully restored to a good standard making your stay comfortable. With the multi-fuel burner in the living area and the underfloor heating, you can be toasty warm on those cold winters’ evenings and in the summer you can sit out on the patio offering generous views and access to the paddock. The cottage was once a thriving gunpowder works dating back to 1798 and part of Low Wood Mill gunpowder works located on the estuary with access to the sea, now only the cottages and the clock tower survives today as a reminder of the past. Located close to Northumberland’s dramatic coastline, Curlew Cottage is a pretty mid-terraced house on a working farm, with comfortable accommodation for up to five guests. Newonstead Bothy is the ideal relaxing hideaway for a well-deserved holiday or short break, where you can completely switch off and unwind. With lovely light and airy rooms and far-reaching country views, this semi-detached barn conversion is a wonderful place to stay in. On cool evenings you have the marvellous wood burner to curl up in front of.
Set on the owner’s upland hill farm, and slightly off the beaten track, it’s idyllic for couples wishing to cycle and walk, with or without a dog. Whilst the location is set in the countryside, you really only are a couple of miles from the main road network so exploring this beautiful county is easy from Newonstead Bothy. The well-equipped kitchen has seating for four, just in case you want to invite friends over, and there is a fabulous large wall map of the county so you can plan all your day trips. On entering to the property, there is a large porch for storing all your outdoor equipment and outside is a storage area for bicycles. The owners provide a welcome tea tray and have added maps which shows which fields and walks you can have access too. In spring the owners are happy to show you the lambs and answer any of your questions.
The wonderful National Trust Property of Wallington Hall and Gardens is only 5 miles away. Matfen Hall, Spa and Golf Centre is only 10 miles, and you can drive down to Corbridge in 20 minutes. This is a lovely old Roman town with plenty of lovely pubs and cafés. The pick-your-own fruit farm and café is only half an hour for you to enjoy in summer. You really can travel all over the county from Newonstead Bothy, then come home and relax in this lovely location.

Only a few minutes walk from Warkworth Castle and the pretty village centre, this small, comfortable, detached holiday studio is an ideal base for exploring this friendly county. It is set within the friendly owners’ grounds yet offers privacy. With a ground floor kitchen and first floor lounge and bedroom area, this quirky studio is a super base for couples or two friends.

Warkworth has some charming little pubs and tea rooms with walks along the river where it is not unusual to see some rare birds. Nearby, the town of Amble which is reputedly ’the friendliest port’ has a working harbour, marina, Sunday market, fish and chip shops and plenty of varied amenities. Alnwick, with its famous castle featured in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, is only a few miles with cobbled streets and famous water gardens with a spectacular grand cascade, and the worlds largest tree house restaurant should not be missed. Warkworth is on the main Heritage coastal route which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and from here you can enjoy some glorious unspoilt beaches and rugged coastline.

Historic locations also feature prominently as both Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne’s Holy Island are close by.
