It’s also the terminus for West Somerset Railway, the longest heritage railway in Britain. The town offers a wide range of attractions, including the beach, promenade, harbour, beautiful gardens and a colourful tree-lined avenue with an array of shops and amenities.     Within a 10-minute drive you have Blue Anchor beach, a wonderful dog friendly beach with café, the town of Watchet with its harbour and local shops and pubs, or the seaside resort of Minehead which has many shops, restaurants and a beach. The village of Washford is under a mile away with its lovely local Inn. Whilst in Minehead, why not jump on the West Somerset Steam Railway which weaves its way along the north Somerset coast through to the countryside town of Bishops Lydeard. Exmoor National Park, with its dark star gazing skies, is within easy reach being under 2 miles away, and has many quaint hamlets and villages to explore, miles of moors, superb scenery and the famous wild Exmoor ponies. Then there’s the local county town of Taunton where you can indulge in some shopping, dining or catch a game of cricket at the county ground.

    Heading upstairs you will find the family bathroom with a P-shape bath and shower plus a heated towel rail.     Outside, the south-facing garden, with two decks, is a great size and is mainly lawned, perfect for your two and four-legged family to let off some steam running around and playing games.     Minehead Golf Course, founded in 1882, is Somerset’s oldest and is open all year round. Minehead is also a bustling seaside resort with plenty of things to do and there are many shops, bars, and restaurants to sample as well as three supermarkets within a 5-minute walk! Take time to explore, get lost and find hidden rivers, old-fashioned tea rooms and country pubs. The village of Dunster has its beach, plus its castle and cobbled streets are a must-do while here. Dunster by candlelight in December is a magical experience! Drive along the coast and spend time in Porlock, ride the cliff railway that links Lynton and Lynmouth or wander around Watchet. Held in December, this really is a spectacular event, so book early.

    Both apartments have an allocated parking space in the National Trust overflow car park which is just a short walk from the apartments. During your stay at Dunster Castle Apartments, there is much to see and do. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coastal Path or inland on Exmoor with highlights such as Dunkery Beacon, Tarr Steps, and Countisbury Head. Looking towards Minehead, there is a good range of shops and amenities. It is also home to the West Somerset Steam Railway which runs between Minehead and Bishop’s Lydeard. Further along the coast are the villages of Watchet, Porlock, and Porlock Weir. The Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the National Trust’s Watersmeet Gorge, Valley of the Rocks, and the funicular cliff railway, are well worth a visit.
