Seaton Hall has a fascinating past, the hall was named after the de Seton dynasty who resided from 1130 to 1307, and whose family made allegiances with and marriages to the Scottish Royal family. Passed down through generations, before slipping into disrepair. The present owner (who is descended from one of the previous residents Sir Francis Bigod) purchased the estate in 2002. He has employed a team of specialist masons and craftsmen and has been lovingly rebuilding and restoring this incredible place of local heritage.

There is something to delight everyone in the area, with picturesque walking trails, including the Cleveland Way leading across the cliff tops. Many pretty coastal villages such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and the historical seafaring town of Whitby will delight guests. Whitby, with its cobbled old town, independent shops and cafes, boat trips and the iconic Abbey ruins makes a great day out. Saltburn is a surfer’s paradise, with a beautiful Victorian pier. You can take a trip on the steam train across the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking in the views and visiting some beautiful villages along the way. For children you can ride the miniature train in Ruswarp before hiring a boat to row along the river. At the top of the village a minute’s walk away away is a popular pub and hotel serving evening meals. Runswick Bay has arguably the most beautiful beach along this coastline. From the top of the village it takes just over 10 minutes to walk down the hill to the bay with a cluster of historic houses teetering above the sea. Down beside the bay is a small café, a traditional pub, a sailing club, paddleboarding and kayaking through the warmer months. It is a sheltered bay, so the water is often calm, whereas surfers have neighbouring Saltburn and Sandsend where the waves are often much bigger. The beach is beautiful, as well as being both dog and child friendly. From the clifftops you can join the Cleveland Way which links scenic coastal villages and bays from Filey in the south and up to Saltburn in the north, then continuing into the North York Moors National Park.

Further north along the coast is Staithes and Saltburn, the latter a surfers’ paradise with a Victorian pier and funicular railway, with an enormous beach stretching to Marske and Redcar. To the south is Sandsend, where the waves dramatically crash over the sea wall at high tide. Whitby is bursting with history and draws guests from around the world. The tangle of cobbled streets in the village of Robin Hood’s Bay cling to the cliff top, with houses spilling right down to the water’s edge. For a day out to remember, take the heritage steam train from Whitby across the Esk valley with some quaint villages to visit along the way. Cyclists will love the Cinder Track which is fairly level and connects Whitby to Scarborough.

Staithes View is in a delightfully secluded spot, with the delights of the North York Moors surrounding you. Goathland, Grosmont, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and the lovely market town of Guisborough are all within easy reach, as is the heritage steam railway, now world-famous following the Harry Potter movies. For keen walkers there are many scenic walking trails to choose from, with the Cleveland Way giving you arguably the most breath-taking views in Yorkshire as you follow the cliff top footpath. Less than 10 minutes away you have Scaling Dam, where you will find watersports to enjoy including sailing and paddleboarding.
There is an 18th-century coaching inn where you can enjoy meals and views over the reservoir, with a play area as well as an adventure golf course for younger family members. The nearest pub in Easington is 1¾ miles away; it serves great food, is dog friendly, has large TVs for sports events and has an outdoor play area for children. Staithes is a 10-minute drive away, and you also have the glorious golden sandy beach at Skinningrove less than 5 miles away. There is so much to see and do nearby, making this a great destination throughout all the seasons.

It is conveniently positioned for visiting the delightful coastal resorts of Runswick Bay, just one mile away, and Sandsend and Whitby, where you can enjoy beautiful stretches of golden beaches. The quaint village of Sandsend is only four miles away and is an ideal place for all the family with its award-winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. This part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here.
Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon which is great for paddling and boating. A lovely, scenic 6-mile walk along the Cleveland Way will bring you into the historic port of Whitby where you will find an abundance of activities for adults and children to enjoy. There is a large selection of pubs, quaint antique and gift shops, the famous fish and chip shops and 3 miles of golden sandy beach and amusements. You can take a trip on one of the fishing boats that will take you out and around the harbour where you can appreciate the views of St Mary’s Church and the stunning abbey that towers on the east side of the town.
Whitby has many events going on all year round which are extremely popular including folk wek, music weekends including sixties and soul weekends and also Goth Weekends mainly because of Whitby’s connection with Dracula.
