This welcoming semi-detached holiday cottage, adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse but with its private garden, enjoys uninterrupted countryside views as far as the eye can see! Hollins Lane is alongside the property and is perfect for a leisurely country walk, especially for any four-legged friends.
The scenic Churnet Valley has steam trains, wildlife reserves, and miles of splendid walking trails, through unspoilt woodlands, across rolling green fields and along the Cauldon Canal towpath which also follows the heritage railway line and River Churnet. The Roaches towering over the Market Town of Leek, provide spectacular views of Tittesworth Reservoir and the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit is beautiful Dovedale, well-known for its stepping stones, and nearby Ilam Park and Gardens where you can relax after a long walk or have a lovely picnic.
Local attractions in the area are Alton Towers Theme Park, Splash Landings & Crazy Golf. The Trentham Estate and its award-winning gardens, with retail therapy to be enjoyed at its shopping village and garden centre, and the Monkey Forest is an absolute must! At Peak Wildlife Park come face-to-face with meerkats, penguins, alpacas, and polar bears!!! Stoke-on-Trent, known as ‘The Potteries’ has a few original bottle oven kilns remaining, some can be seen at the Gladstone Pottery Museum, home to Channel 4’s ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’. Kings Barn is a lovely barn conversion which has been thoughtfully renovated in 2022 by the owner and offers guests space and comfort. Although it has retained some of its traditional features, it also has a modern and contemporary feel. On the ground floor is a living room with comfortable seating, Smart TV and patio doors which lead to the side of the property, a further reception room, again with comfortable seating and a Smart TV, a well-equipped kitchen/dining room and a utility room. Also on the ground floor are two of the bedrooms and the family bathroom. Upstairs are a further three bedrooms, accommodating up to 10 guests. Outside in the courtyard, you will find a garden room/office complete with Wi-Fi.
Being close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford, Weston Park, the historic town of Shrewsbury, the beautiful Shropshire Hills and many National Trust and English Heritage sites, there is plenty to do. For those looking for a day out shopping, Shrewsbury town is half an hour away. Cannock Chase, one of England’s finest natural landscapes famous for its scenery, wildlife and rich history, is only half an hour away. It offers walking, cycling and horse riding in a superb setting, and in August 2022 was the venue for the Commonwealth Games cross-country mountain bike racingShropshire has an array of outdoor activities on offer including kayaking, canoeing, cycling, walking, gliding, golf, fishing and horse racing. The area is never short of places to visit with a plethora of castles, abbeys, farms, museums, discovery centres, gardens, parks and historic houses.

Gretna is located on the outskirts of Longnor, a village nestled within the Peak District hills. Although the bungalow itself is quite rural, you are just a few minutes’ drive into the centre of the village where there is a pub and shop, around 5 miles is the nearest town of Buxton which has many independent shops, cafeé, and a variety of restaurants plus the opera house, which has shows on weekly, and the Pavillion Gardens which are lovely to walk around. There are other towns close to Gretna such as Leek, Ashbourne, Bakewell and the Chatsworth Estate. If you are an avid walker, you will be spoilt for choice, step outside the property and immediately be surrounded by the rolling hills offering endless countryside walks, if you prefer to follow a trail and cycle route you are just a small number of miles from the High Peak Trail which is relatively flat and has pub and ice cream stops on route.
As you arrive at Gretna you will find ample parking down the driveway for all guests’ cars. There is a private back garden with comfortable furniture to sit on whilst spending the morning planning your exciting day ahead. There is a large living room with enough seating for all guests on the L-shaped sofa, which conveniently faces the Smart TV and wood burner; the views from this room are stunning and far reaching, especially on a clear day. The views can also be seen from the kitchen, which has all the appliances and equipment you should need to cook your favourite meals, and includes a dishwasher to ease clearing up; there is a dining table that can be extended to seat more guests. The property has three bedrooms, made up of a king, a double and a single with a pull-out bed option (for a child). There is a family bathroom with shower over the bath and an additional toilet. The property also offers a gym which is shared with other properties on the land, inside the gym is a designated study area should you need somewhere peaceful to do a few hours work.
