Set in around 12 acres of woodland, this is real country living at its best, but with the convenience of local facilities nearby. Both properties have wood burners taking pride of place for cosy winter months, and for the long summer days the gardens are perfect for simply soaking up the peace and quiet. You’ll find a selection of food serving pubs and a local convenience store less than a mile away with the villages of Endon and Stockton Brook easily accessible. Further afield the market town of Leek can be reached in a 15-minute drive and offers a lot including a wealth of high street shops and eateries.

    The Caldon canal runs close by so is perfect for waterside walks and cycles with maybe a spot of lunch at one of the canal-side pubs on the way. There’s also Rudyard Lake for some water-based activities surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery to be found in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The cottage is within easy reach of towns such as Leek, Ashbourne and Buxton which all are worth a visit. They all offer independent shops and cafés, as well as high street names, plenty of restaurants and bars, and Buxton also has the opera house, where you can watch shows making for a good night out. There are also several National Trust Properties nearby and the Peak Wildlife Park is within 5 miles. If you are more of a thrill seeker, then Alton Towers is a mere 10-mile drive.
    Butterton sits high above the Manifold Valley. From the cottage, you can get straight onto this trail and walk for miles, connecting to other neighbouring trails. Some of the most beautiful scenery in the Peak District is within easy reach. Tissington Trail - popular with walkers and cyclists - is only 5 miles away. The local inn in Butterton is less than a quarter of a mile from the cottage and offers delicious food and ales. The property has been renovated to a high standard in 2023 with sustainable materials and underfloor heating to the ground floor.
    As you drive through Butterton, to get to the cottage you pass through a ford, and from there you can see this inviting and welcoming cottage. There is ample parking outside and the stream runs by creating a relaxing atmosphere as you listen to the sounds of the water whilst enjoying the large garden this property offers. Inside the house is a kitchen with all the appliances and equipment you should need to make your favourite meal, a dining table that seats all guests, and the cute addition of a cushioned window bench; the dining room has patio doors opening it up to the garden, which has great views through fields to the distant hills. The sitting room is a comfortable and cosy space with a roaring wood burning stove to warm up in front of, after a day of walking or exploring. On the first floor is the master bedroom with a kingsize bed, a second bedroom with kingsize zip and link bed (which can be made into twin beds upon request), and the third bedroom with a full sized bunk bed. Lichfield retains its original character with a beautiful cathedral, Samuel Johnson’s home, a centre dedicated to Erasmus Darwin, St Mary’s Centre (where the Staffordshire Millennium Tapestries are on permanent display) and wonderful places to stop and enjoy some food. The market town of Ashbourne is worth visiting, with its original cobbled lanes, old market stalls and grand Georgian buildings which are home to a good selection of restaurants, interesting shops and traditional coaching inns. Why not visit nearby Burton-upon-Trent? Here you can enjoy a fascinating day discovering the art of brewing beer, whilst the National Memorial Arboretum is just a short drive away.
