The 11th-century Norman and Medieval castle, where the village derives its name, has long since disappeared but the earthworks still remain in the nearby deer park. The nearby market towns of Pershore and Evesham have a range of shops, restaurants and pubs and are only 3 and 5 miles away, and can also be accessed by the local bus route which departs from outside the village pub.
Within 8 miles you can find yourself in the Cotswolds where you can visit beautiful towns and villages including Broadway, 8 miles, Moreton-in-Marsh, 17 miles, and Stow-on-the-Wold, 19 miles, where you can find quaint high streets and fantastic eateries. There is so much more to discover close by including the cathedral city of Worcester, 13 miles, the historic riverside town of Tewkesbury, 13 miles, the Malverns, with their magnificent hills and popular festival theatre, 19 miles, and the regency town of Cheltenham made famous from its horse racing festivals, 18 miles. New Inn House is also ideal for visiting Cheltenham, and the Gustav Holst Museum, Evesham – reputedly Lady Godiva’s site of burial, and Tewkesbury.
In addition to the many historic Cotswold villages and towns, the surrounding countryside is excellent terrain for walking; a climb to the summit of the Worcestershire Beacons affords marvellous views of lush green Hereford and the flat expanses of the Severn Valley.
