    Set on the outskirts of one of Worcestershire’s most beautiful villages, Elmley Castle, nestling below the northern slopes of Bredon Hill in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Lodge at Elmley Meadow is situated on a small holding with sheep and chickens, and is attached to the discreet and friendly owners’ home, with views to Bredon Hill. With a cosy open plan living, dining and kitchen area with a wood burner to relax in front of on a chilly evening, a downstairs double bedroom and shower room and a large private courtyard to enjoy eating al fresco. It is an ideal property for all the family including your four-legged friends, who have use of an enclosed field in the owners’ grounds. The property is on an 18-mile cycle route known as ’around the hill’ which encircles Bredon Hill and goes through local villages, there are several footpaths in the area, including one which starts at the property, at the end of the drive.
    The village of Elmley Castle has a beautiful tree lined main street with many black and white and old red brick cottages, with a pub at the end which is only half a mile from the lodge. The 11th-century Norman and Medieval castle, where the village derives its name, has long since disappeared but the earthworks still remain in the nearby deer park. The nearby market towns of Pershore and Evesham have a range of shops, restaurants and pubs and are only 3 and 5 miles away, and can also be accessed by the local bus route which departs from outside the village pub.
    Within 8 miles you can find yourself in the Cotswolds where you can visit beautiful towns and villages including Broadway, 8 miles, Moreton-in-Marsh, 17 miles, and Stow-on-the-Wold, 19 miles, where you can find quaint high streets and fantastic eateries. There is so much more to discover close by including the cathedral city of Worcester, 13 miles, the historic riverside town of Tewkesbury, 13 miles, the Malverns, with their magnificent hills and popular festival theatre, 19 miles, and the regency town of Cheltenham made famous from its horse racing festivals, 18 miles.     Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and down a quiet lane away from the main road, this lovely cottage dates back to 1871 and was originally owned by the Duke of Northampton, who used the property for his land agent. Ashby Cottage was separated from Ashby House in the early 1970’s to form a separate residence. The cottage boasts traditional features such as an original baker’s oven and attractive mullion windows.

    Long Compton is situated in the beautiful Cotswolds in south Warwickshire close to the borders of both Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village is located approximately half way between Oxford and Stratford upon Avon and is within easy reach of both. The church dates back to the 13th century, and the lychgate to the 17th century. Visit the award-winning pub, which was built as a coaching inn in 1748 and is situated only 300 yards from the cottage. For golfers, there are two excellent courses close by, and for horse riders, guests will find an excellent riding school. Bikes are available to hire from Morton-in-Marsh.

    Only one mile away stands the ancient Rollright Stones, just waiting for you to explore, dating from around 2000BC. Long Compton is a walker’s paradise with the MacMillan Way passing by the village. Ashby Cottage is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Cotswolds villages and towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Norton, Chipping Campden, Hook Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway, Snowshill, Bourton on the water, Burford and Woodstock to name a few.

    A little further away stands Blenheim Palace and Oxford to the south, and a 30-minutes’ drive north will take you to the famous, historical town of Stratford-upon-Avon, fondly known as Shakespeare country.
