Located right in the heart of Ilfracombe, Blue Beach House is very conveniently located with all the local shops, restaurants and other local amenities within easy walking distance of the house. Seek out Damian Hirst’s ’Verity’ sculpture - a great topic of conversation. The Victorian Tunnels Beaches are worth a visit and are also a sought after wedding venue. A walk up to St Nicholas Chapel will give you a great view over the harbour and town. Enjoy a spot of crabbing from the pier and there a numerous sightseeing and fishing trips leaving from the harbour.
During your stay, there is plenty to see and do in the local area and slightly further afield. Good days out include Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Watermouth Castle and the Lynton to Lynmouth cliff railway. At Croyde and Woolacombe you will find some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country as well as many smaller coves and bays. Exmoor is a short distance away and on a clear day the views can be spectacular. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Great Torrington. Roosters Retreat is a first-floor apartment set within an old Grade II Listed cottage that is situated within 1 mile of the seafront in this lovely seaside town and offers comfortable, spacious and contemporary accommodation for up to four guests who are looking for the perfect base from which to discover this beautiful part of the country. Fully updated, it is well suited for a small family or couples and is within easy reach of shops, restaurants and the beach. The accommodation comprises a spacious open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a high arched ceiling with a smart TV and comfortable furniture. The kitchen area has an electric oven and hob, a dishwasher and a full size fridge/freezer. Directly outside the main living area is a small sitting-out area. There are two bedrooms; a king-size and a twin and a lovely modern shower room parking is available directly outside the apartment for one car.

This lovely ground floor apartment is both spacious and airy and is located under 300 yards away from the serene local beach – the perfect place to enjoy some of the best sunsets in this amazing region. The popular South West coast path is just a few minutes walk from High Tide. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay as a base for discovering North Devon or want a place to simply kick back and relax, then High Tide is just perfect. Accessed via the private car park, the apartment is reached up a flight of stairs and once inside the accommodation is all on one level and comprises two bedrooms (a kingsize and a twin) and a contemporary bathroom with a bath and shower over. The open plan living space includes a comfortable living area with a Smart TV and patio doors leading out into the patio garden, which is on two levels. From here you can sit and enjoy an outdoor meal or evening drink and you can see the sea with Wales in the distance. Back inside, the kitchen/dining area has all you’ll need for your stay. Private parking is also available for up to one car. Within a 5 minute walk there are shops, cafes and pubs.
The surrounding area has many attractions waiting to be discovered, such as the local beach at Combe Martin where you can enjoy the stunning sunsets of the North Devon coast. On the door step is the South West Coast Path too, popular with walkers, and the surrounding area boasts other attractions such as Cairn Woodland Nature Reserve, Watermouth Bay and, the lovely Fuchsia Valley, Watermouth Castle and Theme Park and don’t forget the nearby town of Ilfracombe with its very own harbour and port which dates back to at least the 12th Century. here you can sample quality ice cream, fish and chips and visit various craft shops, plus Damien Hirst’s ‘Verity’ statue, which is a must see. Trips to Lundy Island, coastal cruises, fishing, sea-life safaris and diving are also all available from here. Take a trip on the Ilfracombe Princess and see seals, porpoises and sea birds nesting on the cliffs. Try your hand at sea fishing on Blue Fin or take an exhilarating tour of the amazing coastline on the Ilfracombe Sea Safari or on the Hampshire Rose, a former RNLI Lifeboat.
Combe Martin is also perfectly situated to the enjoy the countless other North Devon attractions such as the popular Tarka Trail which provides the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and scenery stretching from Barnstaple through to Bideford and beyond. And then there’s stunning Exmoor National Park with its beautiful night skies, just 6 miles away and Lynton & Lynmouth, 13 miles to the northeast with its incredible sea views, rugged cliffs and amazing funicular cliff railway, which opened in 1890 and is the highest and steepest totally water powered railway in the world! Welcome to Anchors Away, a wonderful and spacious, one bedroomed ground floor apartment in the heart of Blue Anchor, with stunning views across the bay to Minehead.
Step through the door and into your bright, airy and well equipped kitchen/diner, complete with electric hob and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The cosy living room has comfy sofas and chairs to snuggle up on while watching TV or when gazing out through the conservatory to the garden and the sea beyond. Speaking of which, the conservatory has a seating area and double doors that lead to your private enclosed garden, perfect for the dog or you to relax and enjoy. The bedroom has a double bed and separate dressing area, while the shower room has a large cubicle shower and toilet.
Blue Anchor is a wonderful seaside village, set between Minehead and Watchet, with a fabulous stretch of beach which is perfect for year round use and is also dog friendly at all times! The beautiful West Somerset Steam Railway, which runs through Blue Anchor, has a stop here and they offer wonderful trips as well as speciality trips with steam fairs, afternoon teas, candlelight dinners and the amazing Santa Express! Nearby, head to the medieval village of Dunster with its wonderful castle, spend a day at the arcades or shopping in Minehead, pop to Watchet and stroll around the Harbour or head inland onto Exmoor.

Western Heights is a four bedroom detached cottage, perfect for six people, and is situated high up in this stunning location. Access to the cottage is by foot only via 12 steps in total with a long, lit gravel pathway in between, so this is not recommended for anyone with walking difficulties. As you arrive you will see a handy square switch on the wall by the house sign which will light your way up the path when dark. Parking for one car is available down below via a driveway but you can pull in by the footpath and unload before parking up.
Accommodation comprises four bedrooms on the first floor, three of which benefit from beautiful sea views. On the ground floor, there is a comfortable living room with TV and Amazon Firestick, plus a cosy wood burner for relaxing evenings in. The bright and contemporary kitchen/diner has everything you’ll need for your stay and access out onto the large decking where the views over the sea and towards Wales are spectacular, and outside is the best place to truly enjoy the views. Along with the main decking you’ll find a table and chairs for al-fresco dining, there is also a further smaller decking that sits above the cottage where the views get even better! The perfect place to enjoy a quiet evening drink with a book in hand. At the back of the cottage you will also find a handy outdoor WC and an outhouse containing a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Lynton, also known as ‘Little Switzerland’, is a small Victorian town which lies on the northern edge of the West Country peninsula in an area of incomparable beauty within Exmoor National Park. Bracken and heather clad, the sweeping hills and valleys nestle between these and spectacular cliffs. Rivers wind their way through deeply wooded valleys on their way to the sea, occasionally interrupted by tumbling waterfalls. The remarkable Valley of the Rocks, which is a must see, is a dry valley that runs parallel to the coast and is just over a mile to the west of Lynton. It is a popular tourist destination noted for its herd of feral goats and for its landscape and geology. There’s a Victorian fishing lodge at Watersmeet which is now run by the National Trust and the area which has dramatic waterfalls is worth a visit.
Inland there are numerous walks through the rugged scenery of the National Park with over 600 miles of marked footpaths! Exmoor itself has abundant wildlife, including ponies, sheep and red deer that graze the open moorland, and overhead you might see falcons, buzzards and even the rare merlin. The surrounding coastline and countryside boast some of the most spectacular and awe-inspiring sea and hillside views you can find! There are some amazing walks that can be taken directly from the property, and local restaurants, pubs, cafés, tea rooms and various craft, boutique, novelty and antique shops are all within easy reach. There is also one of the most characterful town hall buildings you’ll find anywhere showing the best of the Tudor Revival style and then there’s the local cinema in a former Grade II Listed chapel where you can relax and take in a movie! The twin village of Lynmouth with its riverside walks, harbourside pubs, restaurants and large manor green overlooking the sea is linked by road, footpath and the famous Victorian funicular cliff railway which opened in 1890.

Head to the coast and walk around the harbour of Watchet, play the arcades in Minehead, or take the dog to Blue Anchor with its long stretch of pet-friendly beach. Further afield you have the towns of Lynton and Lynmouth with its famous cliff railway, the highest and the steepest fully water-powered Victorian railway in the World. If Trains are your thing, then the West Somerset Steam Railway that runs from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead is a must-do day out for all the family.
