This cottage is situated on an organic farm, in the grounds of the owner’s home, midway between Gloucester and the Forest of Dean on the A4136 giving access by car to the main tourist attractions. This single storey detached cottage offers a great base to explore the delights of the surrounding areas. In front of the cottage is a small well-protected patio and beyond that the farmland extends up towards Huntley Hill. There are sheep and cattle quietly grazing and footpaths in several directions.
Golfing, fishing, riding and cycle hire can all be found within the Forest of Dean. Gloucester Docks and the Waterways Museum are within easy driving, as well as Cheltenham with its variety of shopping, bars and restaurants and, of course, the famous Cheltenham races. Barn Owl Cottage originally started its life as an 18th-century barn which has been thoughtfully converted into a wonderful holiday cottage. The owners have taken great pride in maintaining some original features whilst incorporating all the modern day necessities to make Barn Owl Cottage an incredibly comfortable place to take a holiday to remember. You will find yourself on the owners’ working farm with chickens roaming the garden and footpaths, and enjoying the day to day running of this wonderful working farm. Look to the rear of the barn and you will discover the original ice house which used to serve the nearby Willersley Castle. Clustered around a courtyard, the barn is set in a rural location nestled in the Derwent Valley yet in easy reach of many of Derbyshire’s attractions, particularly nearby Matlock and Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Carsington Water and of course the wonderful Chatsworth House. After a hard day exploring all Derbyshire has to offer, relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Barn Owl Cottage.

There are also several show caves around Castleton, 15 miles. For those who prefer all the facilities that a big city has to offer, Manchester is just 15 miles away. Popular attractions in and around the city include Old Trafford, the Trafford Centre, Chill Factor and the Airkix indoor skydiving. National Trust properties are within easy driving distance include Lyme Park which was used as the location for BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, 12 miles, and Chatsworth is 27 miles. 2 miles away is the village of Abercych, where you can visit the local inn and enjoy truly superb food, specializing in local home cooked produce and set in a magnificent setting alongside the Cych River, where you can dine al-fresco on a warm summer’s day. The market town of Cardigan is around a 10 minutes’ drive away where you will find a plethora of boutique shops, cafes, gift shops and a theatre along with the coastal path that runs through Cardigan. Here you can join the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire National Park coastal footpath, where you can take in this truly beautiful coastline.

This characterful and quirky cottage has been finished to a good standard throughout and offers the perfect romantic retreat. As you enter this cottage you will see the owner’s efforts to retain the original features, including exposed stone, lime walls, original beams and quarry tiled flooring. Enjoy dining in front of the wood burner and then retiring to the cosy living room with a glass of wine, or enjoy sitting out on the patio beneath the stars. On the first floor the bedroom has been lovingly furnished complete with original wooden flooring and leading into an en-suite bathroom, where you can soak in the cast iron, roll-top bath whilst enjoying a good read - the ultimate in relaxation.

The Welsh Wildlife Centre and Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve, run by the Wildlife Trust, is really not to be missed, home to one of the best wetland sites in Wales. Cenarth Falls are just a 5-minute drive, and a short drive north is the market town of Cardigan, set around Cardigan Bay with a plethora of beaches like Mwnt, Poppit Sands and Newport Sands to name a few, which are ideal for dog walking, building sandcastles, fishing or sunbathing. The famous walled town of Tenby is around 50 minutes away. Beach 9 miles. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub 800 yards.

Eldin Hall Cottages are set in a peaceful area and have been added more recently to the restored old Victorian waterworks. The four cottages have their own enclosed decked patios with garden furniture, and The Gatehouse has its own enclosed private lawned garden. There is also a shared garden with a fantastic play area for the children. The owners, who just 10 minutes away, will be there to greet guests whenever possible, and are available any time to provide information and assistance when it is required.
Situated between Cayton and Cayton Bay, the cottages are an ideal base to visit the east coast, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. The beach at Cayton Bay is less than a mile away (2 miles by road) and just a little further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Scarborough. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are just a short drive away. The walks along the clifftops are spectacular and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs attracts visitors from worldwide and is just a short drive from the cottages. Here you can see puffins, kittiwakes and lots of other migrating seabirds. Not to be missed during your stay (as it’s always voted as one of the top ten cities to visit) is the wonderful city of York which is less than an hour away by car, or the train is direct from Scarborough.
