Welcome to Y Bwthyn Bach-Arthog Hall Barns, nestled between the historic market town of Dolgellau and the coastal village of Fairbourne; this Welsh stone cottage is an ideal base for exploring north-west Wales.
The cottage oozes rustic charm, with high vaulted ceilings, a delightful interior finished with reclaimed wood furniture and rural country art. The open plan living, and dining area is the heart of the cottage; the rustic colours, fabrics and materials blend with the natural surroundings and provide a relaxing haven where you can cosy up on the sofa with a book by the wood burner or enjoy a hearty meal at the picnic style wooden dining table. You’ll find all your home comforts in the well-appointed kitchen. The ground floor has underfloor heating, making those cooler months a dream. The upstairs is filled with natural light from the floor to ceiling glass windows and Velux windows across the landing area. The dining table is positioned in a light-filled spot right in front of the patio doors, a great place to start the day with a delicious breakfast. In addition, there is a cosy snug with a stylish high-backed chair and a selection of books and Xbox one, great for the kids. There are three bedrooms, all on the ground floor sleeping up to eight guests. The master bedroom features a super kingsize bed, with extra single bed and pull-out bed for flexible sleeping, this bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. And the other two are just as comfortable with zip and link super kingsize or twins, as well as a shower room and family bathroom. Step outside into the pretty courtyard and you’ll find more dining space for barbecuing on sunny days, there’s also a handy wetsuit drying area for those who’ve braved a dip in the sea. In the evenings, gather around the table and chairs on the balcony for an after-dinner drink as the sun sets.
The house is located minutes away from Barmouth, when the tide is in you can walk on the promenade, it takes around 20-30 minutes. Wander through town, stopping off at shops and cafés along the way or to one of the restaurants for dinner. Barmouth beach is 100 yards away, accessible by footpath from the house, over a pedestrian railway crossing, the beach varies from vast sandy expanses to pebbles and lovely sand dunes. From your doorstep you can walk up to Arthog Waterfalls and the stunning Cregennan lakes, along the Mawddach Trail, or over to Barmouth on the railway bridge. Historic steam trains, horseriding, mountain biking and water sports are all in the area, with sandy beaches, mountains, nature reserves, and stunning coastlines right on your doorstep. For some delightful shops, cafes and pubs, Dolgellau, steeped in Welsh history, is a short drive away. The town hosts a farmers’ market and has retained its traditional market town feel - a gem in the Snowdonia National Park. There are plenty of places to enjoy dinner and wine across the town.
