Porthmadog is the departure point for wonderful steam train journeys on the world famous Ffestiniog Railway as it winds its spectacular way through superb scenery up into the Snowdonia Mountains. The pretty Italianate village of Portmeirion, location of the cult TV series ‘The Prisoner’ is also close by. Criccieth is a pretty village watched over by a medieval castle, and boasts a lovely beach and a good selection of restaurants and shops.
