Bethel is just under 10 minutes from the centre of Bala, surrounded by the dramatic landscape of the Snowdonia National Park, this makes a great base from which to explore the area. The historic town of Bala has a wide range of cafés and restaurants and an award-winning butcher, people travel for miles for their pork pies! Take a trip along the lake on the 2ft narrow gauge steam trains, a 9-mile trip taking in some breath-taking scenery along the way. This area is surrounded by the rural region of Penllyn, with mountains, forests, waterfalls, and many lakes, perfect for avid kayakers and paddle boarders. Penllyn’s main mountain ranges - Aran, Arenig and Berwyn – rival those of other parts of Snowdonia but are not as crowded. Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is a magnet for climbers and walkers. The area has an excellent range of outdoor pursuits, historic castles and family attractions. The picturesque Italian village of Portmeirion, is well worth a visit, as is the glorious sandy beach at Black Rock Sands, great for all ages, you can drive your car onto the vast expanse of sands. Porthmadog is a busy harbour town, home to the Welsh Highland Steam Railway.
