The village of Cantley is a comfortable walk beside the river and has 2 pubs, The conservation village of Reedham, 8 minutes’ drive, has two pubs serving food, a fish and chip shop, delicatessen with café, a micro-brewery, railway station and riverside seating allowing you to watch the boating activity. The market town of Acle, 15 minutes’ drive, also has a railway station, supermarket, shops and cafés.
The Norfolk Broads National park offers miles of much-celebrated waterways to explore, daily boat hire and river trips excursions available. Wroxham, capital of the Broads is just 23 minutes’ drive with riverside restaurants and shops. Wonderful sandy beaches can be found along the Norfolk coastline; Great Yarmouth has plenty of traditional seaside family activities. This superb wing of Grade II listed Islington Hall, which is adjacent to the owner’s home, has been refurbished for 2018 and benefits from a large garden and a private hot tub to sit back and relax in after a day spent exploring the area. There is plenty for all the family to see and do, from Her Majesty’s country retreat at Sandringham, 20 minutes by car, and the sandy beaches of Heacham and Hunstanton to the medieval town of King’s Lynn, which is just a short drive away. Hunstanton is a traditional seaside resort and offers good days out for all the family, as does Heacham, which has been a seaside resort for over 150 years. For children there is Church Farm, 10 miles south of King’s Lynn, where you can meet the animals and enjoy refreshment in the farm café/restaurant. Snettisham is great for spotting the birdlife that inhabits this stretch of the Norfolk coastline and you can often see thousands of wading birds in the spring, or sit and watch the birds on the lagoon islands. Beach 17 miles. Nearby there is horse-riding, golf, fishing and roller skating. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Undertake a spot of crab-lining on Blakeney quayside, or head to Wells-next-the-Sea and watch the pretty little fishing boats bobbing on the tide then visit the wide sandy beach with its much-photographed painted beach huts. Head east and explore lovely Sheringham or stroll along the Edwardian seafront and famous pier in Cromer.
For those seeking history, you will find this area simply buzzing with sites of historical import such as the Blickling, Holkham, and Sandringham Estates, and nature lovers will not be disappointed either with Sheringham Park, Cley Marshes, and Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, all within easy reach. You can even be at the gateway to the Norfolk Broads in under an hour too. The BeWILDerwood Outdoor Adventure Park at Horning offers treehouses, zip wires, jungle bridges and more - all adding up to a great day out for children. The fine city of Norwich with its cathedrals, castle, museums, theatre and vast array of cafes and shops is half an hour away. There is a wealth of National Trust properties to visit in the area, which include Felbrigg Hall, Garden and Park (one of the finest Jacobean houses in East Anglia), the beautifully landscaped Sheringham Park and the magnificent Blickling Hall with its woodland and lakeside walks.
