Ideal for walking, bird watching, active holidays with family, friends, or to celebrate a special occasion. The moors, footpaths and bridleways are on your doorstep, and Kildale’s small train station is on the glorious Esk Valley line to the ancient seaport of Whitby, passing through Goathland, Heartbeat’s village; you can even enjoy the leisurely journey by steam. Visit the Georgian market town of Stokesley where the partly cobbled streets are lined with inns, tea rooms and a mix of shops. Explore the heritage coast and sandy beaches of Yorkshire with seaside towns such as Saltburn, Whitby and Scarborough within easy reach, and fishing villages including Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay. Historic homes, abbeys and castles abound in this area with Newby Hall and Gardens, Castle Howard, the castle ruins in Helmsley and Rievaulx Abbey in the vicinity. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond.
