The cottages have been skilfully converted from a stone barn, share an outer porch, adjoin a former farmhouse, and are set in 40 acres of private grounds, woodland and garden which guests have use of. Wensleydale Trekking centre is based here in the grounds, offering riding lessons and trekking. Stabling available for own horse by arrangement. The village of Bainbridge, 1 mile. An ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Shops and pub 1 mile. Properties (refs 2017, 2018 and 19764) can be booked together to sleep 8 or 12.

This charming property stands adjoining the owners’ farmhouse and offers a peaceful retreat with dark skies in a quiet location, visited by deer, barn owls and buzzards. The owners may be away occasionally, but help will always be on hand should guests require it. A single-storey barn conversion, it is reached via a farm track (1/3 mile). A hotel is at the end of the farm drive, a bistro is opposite the hotel gates, and the village of Scalby, with its two pubs, café and village shop, is within walking distance. Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby are nearby, and the farm is set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, which is an excellent base for walking in stunning countryside. Tucked away in the peaceful village of Felixkirk, this cosy, dog-friendly holiday cottage adjoins the owner’s home and provides a very comfortable rural retreat on the very edge of the North York Moors National Park, near Thirsk. This brick-built, single-storey cottage is a hidden gem offering a very private stay whilst enjoying an enviable position near to the award-winning, dog-friendly Carpenters Arms pub and is 5 minutes by car from the nearby market town of Thirsk. It has been completely renovated internally in December 2019 and externally over the summer of 2020.
The cottage offers beautifully presented accommodation for two guests and their pets. There is a small double bedroom with under-bed storage, and a sofa bed for alternative sleeping arrangements in the living room. There is extensive garden space outside the cottage with stunning views, which is also fully fenced to allow your pets to wander in a contained area. Access to a larger field is also provided. Car parking for two cars is available next to the cottage, which is at the end of a private tarmac and gravelled driveway. There is also separate secure storage available for bicycles.
The owners are keen walkers, runners and cyclists and can advise of lovely local and regional routes and provide local dog friendly walk guides for your use. From the doorstep there are numerous footpaths and cycling trails and the renowned, traditional, dog friendly village inn serves local produce just minutes from the cottage. The village is home to a 4x4 driving centre which offers action packed days with off-road driver training and quad biking, and at Sutton Bank, visitors can take a trial lesson at the Yorkshire Gliding Club and visit the nearby famous White Horse near Kilburn. Thirsk, 3 miles, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Thirsk is also home to a well-known racecourse and 15th century church.
Days out can be enjoyed at Rievaulx Abbey near the wonderful town of Helmsley, as well as Castle Howard and Fountains Abbey. Board the steam train at Pickering to be transported through the stunning North York Moors to the coastal port of Whitby and explore the fishing villages at Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes. The North Yorkshire Moors and also the Yorkshire Dales are easily accessible by car and the historic walled city of York is only 25 miles away, with its iconic minster, exquisite architecture, museums and art galleries, and is not to be missed when visiting Yorkshire. Take a trip to Robin Hood’s Bay, which is a hotspot for artists, walkers and cyclists, or board the steam train and journey through the stunning Esk Valley. Beach 3 miles. Curly Tail Cottage is ideally situated for exploring the North York Moors National Park, the North Yorkshire Coast and the Yorkshire Wolds. This is a self-contained, well appointed, one bedroom cottage, located on a working farm with uninterrupted views down the valley. The garden is enclosed with a seating area and small lawn and it overlooks the pond where you can sit and watch the wildlife. If you wish to bring your horse along then the owner can provide grazing (by direct arrangement with the owner at cost).
Harwood Dale is one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, an unspoilt area of Yorkshire with the most stunning scenery and wildlife. It is not far from the Dalby Forest with fantastic mountain bike trails, even the World Cup Cycle Trail has been held here, so there’s plenty of tracks to suit all abilities. The coast is just a short drive with Scarborough, England’s oldest seaside resort being the closest large resort, just 6 miles away with many shops and restaurants, and a visit to the Sea Life Sanctuary and Peasholm Park are not to be missed. Whitby 15 miles north, is rich in history and famous for its connections with Captain Cook. Here you can explore Whitby Abbey and the picturesque harbour, and wander around the cobbled streets full of interesting independent shops and cafés.
