The bright and airy conservatory at the rear of the property overlooks the pretty patio garden. There is also a double bedroom on the ground floor with a bathroom, newly fitted in November 2020, adjacent. There are two further bedrooms on the first floor; one twin and one single, along with the added convenience of a separate toilet. Westview Cottage offers an excellent base from which to explore the Northumberland Heritage Coastline designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Seahouses offers a wide variety of facilities including tearooms, restaurants, pubs and shops around a mile from the cottage. Boat trips to the Farne Islands run from the nearby harbour - the islands are famous for their nesting sea birds and grey seal colonies. Horse riding is available on the cusp of the village and there is an impressive golf course on the links close by. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is only 2 miles north, with its wide expanse of golden, and often empty, sandy beaches and where the tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island and the birth place of Christianity, can be viewed. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Warren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is the home to countless thousands of sea and land birds making this location a haven for bird watchers. The market town of Alnwick, with its own castle offers many facilities a few miles inland. Keen walkers can make use of the private road and head over to Hadrian’s Wall directly from the front door. There are lots of short walks around too and the area is also great for cyclists. It is just a short walk to a bus stop where you can hop on a bus to Hexham or Newcastle. Whilst out discovering the surrounding countryside, drop into Hexham and stop off at the abbey which is home to an old Saxon crypt, or visit the Tuesday market set out on The Shambles, only 12 miles from the bungalow. The pretty village of Corbridge has lots of nice pubs and little shops and is only a few minutes’ drive away. The historic city of Newcastle is only 11 miles away and the main A1 and A69 are easily reached for travelling in all directions around this wonderful county which was voted the ’Best County to Holiday; in 2018 by the British Tourism Awards. The Heritage Coast is close by where you can explore miles of sandy beaches and historic castles. The beautiful forest at Kielder, set in the Northumberland National Dark Sky Park, is easily reached from here by cutting across country through beautiful and diverse countryside. Beach 19½ miles. These properties are for families and couple bookings only, bookings for party purposes such as stag or hen parties are not accepted.
Perfectly situated near to the banks of the River Derwent with a boat house and fishing permits available for a small fee, guests who enjoy river fishing will be spoilt for choice. Also just a few hundred yards from the Derwent Walkway as well as a variety of established public footpaths, walks and cycling routes, there is no better base for enjoying and exploring the local area. Then leading further out into County Durham, Northumberland, the Northumberland National Park and the stunning North Pennines. Only half a mile from the village of Ebchester, there are plenty of amenities and facilities right on the doorstep. A local village pub, excellent restaurants and a village shop are at the heart of this thriving community and within easy walking distance from the lodges. Golf lovers will be able to book a place on the famous Slaley Hall course just 15 miles away or the closer course at Consett which is just 3 miles away. The cathedral city of Durham, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only 15 miles away and well worth a visit.
