Inside it is charming and quirky. The open plan living space and dining area are perfect for that special get-together with friends or family. There is a large wood burner for the cooler nights, with comfy sofas to curl up on. Décor is as you would expect of a lodge, with wooden floors and panelling, tartans and checks and it has a wonderful homely feel to it. Comfortably catering for up to six people, with a well-equipped shaker style kitchen and modern appliances. Should you wish to rustle up brunch or a hearty supper. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms with king size, super king and twin beds. The kingsize bedroom has doors leading out onto a spacious decked balcony where you can sit and enjoy views of the gardens and beyond. A large bathroom with sumptuous underfloor heating completes this floor. Outside is where the fun begins. Pop on a robe and take a dip in the hot tub, surrounded by trees and shrubbery, it’s a perfect hideaway. Find a quiet spot to read a book, or set the table and enjoy an al fresco supper. Steps lead off into a secluded garden with fruit trees and benches to sit and a raised pergola, a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a glass of bubbly. The garden opens up into a paddock and the most amazing wall to wall views of the Tyne Valley and North Cumbrian Fells. An elevated decking area sits in the farthest spot with uninterrupted views of the countryside beyond. As night draws in, take a warm throw to wrap up and sit and experience the amazing starry skies above Northumberland.
Out and about this is a fabulous place to explore with so much to see and do. Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a star gazing experience and is a 20-minute walk away, with nearby Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill and Hexham offering a range of pubs and restaurants. Northumberland is a diverse county with miles of golden beaches on the heritage coast only a few miles away, an abundance of castles and historic sites, a wonderful dark sky National Park and Hadrian’s Wall over in the west. The pretty little market town of Morpeth is only a few miles, here you will find plenty of pubs, restaurants, bespoke shops and riverside boats. Alnwick the ducal town with the popular castle is only a few miles North where some scenes for the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey Films were shot. Nearby Northumberland Zoo is a good day out for the children and Burgham Park Golf Course is nearby. Being close to a great road network you can explore easily from here even taking a day trip to Berwick on Tweed almost on the Scottish Border where you can explore the history of the borders of England and Scotland. Lovingly furnished, The Byre is set over three levels. Upstairs you will find the master bedroom with a kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom. A further double bedroom and a twin room are located downstairs as well as a family bathroom, well-equipped kitchen/dining room and spacious living area. To the back of the property is an enclosed garden with decking that houses a fantastic hot tub, the ideal place to sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday! The Byre is close to Chatton Trout Fishery, a well-stocked 14-acre lake trout fishery which provides an excellent day out for any keen participants!

Chatton is a picturesque village that has a shop and a pub which serves food. Slightly further afield is the friendly small town of Wooler (known locally as Glendale; the inspiration for ‘Postman Pat’s, Greendale’) only 5 miles inland. This is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, golf, horse riding and walking with the challenging St Cuthbert’s Way close by.

Bamburgh is renowned for its majestic fortress and beautiful expanse of golden, sandy beach and is only 11 miles east. The elegant Georgian town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which straddles the salmon rich River Tweed, and the cobbled, market town of Alnwick, protected by its dramatic castle, both offer a wide array of amenities around half an hour’s drive away. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction to see the Grand Cascade Waterfall and dine in the restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! This is England’s Borderland and is often referred to as ’the secret kingdom’. Beach 13 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

La Hacienda is the ideal retreat for a well-deserved holiday or short break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Head north a little way and you will come to Alnwick, home of the Duke of Northumberland who resides in the majestic castle. Step back in time for a wonderful day trip and see the castle where some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes were filmed.

Northumberland is a diverse county home to the fabulous International Dark Sky Park with its miles of forests and moorlands - well worth a visit during your stay at La Hacienda. The area around the park has plenty of wildlife, where you are likely to see deer, red squirrels, and lots of birdlife, as well as the ducks from the duckponds on-site. Plenty of walks can be taken right from your door to enjoy this lovely country park. A short drive takes you onto the coast where you can discover miles of golden sands and friendly villages peppered with ancient castles and history along the way. Alnwick is nearby, where the Duke of Northumberland still resides in the castle, which you can visit and see some of the areas used in TV’s ’Downton Abbey’ and the ’Harry Potter’ films. The little village of Swarland has a small café and village club where visitors are welcomed.

Head north only a few minutes to Alnwick where the majestic castle featured in Harry Potter lies, here you can discover the history of Alnwick then browse the shops and cafes. Only a few miles from Morpeth, a historic town with riverside walks and rowing boats, a lovely Edwardian Shopping Arcade and a great choice of bars and restaurants. Discover the miles and miles of golden sandy beaches set along the heritage coast visit Craster famous for its kippers, or Seahouses with a real seaside holiday feel. Nearby Amble has a popular Sunday morning market, cute shopping pods and a working harbour with plenty of places to have a lovely Sunday Lunch. Travelling all over the county from here is super easy with access in all directions, then come back and relax and unwind in the hot tub bubbles planning your next day’s adventures.

Whittle Dene Reservoir House is a Grade ll listed building, built in 1848 by the well-known architect John Dobson for the Gateshead and Newcastle Water Company. Originally the superintendent’s house, it stands proudly on the banks of the reservoir with uninterrupted views from all windows. Built in Tudor style with a two storey octagonal tower, and grand features throughout, the property is truly unique in every way. This property is luxurious and full of character, and is the ideal place to stay for families, friends and special occasions. With a shaker style kitchen, impressive gas fueled range, full range of electric appliances, De’Longhi accessories and a Nespresso coffee machine for your early morning coffee. Separate utility with washer and dryer, and ample room in the entrance lobby for those muddy boots and coats. Both the dining room and living room have fabulous views across the reservoir, with a welcoming wood burner set in an inglenook fireplace in the dining room, perfect for cosy nights around the table. The reservoir is set in beautiful Northumberland countryside and is the perfect place for a quiet day of coarse fishing. Lovers of the outdoors will enjoy the extensive nearby walks, including sections of the Hadrian’s Wall, perhaps relax for a bite to eat at the picnic area next to the bird hide. The area is also a nature reserve and perfect for bird watchers, with an array of wildlife amidst beautiful scenery for keen walkers and cyclists. Hadrian’s Wall is easily reached, and affords some of the most spectacular scenery in all of England. Discover the famous Vindolanda Roman fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap. For keen golfers there are some excellent courses nearby at Matfen, Slaley, and Close House, previous host to the British Masters, only a short drive away. Less than an hour’s drive will take you to Kielder Water and Forest Park, with an abundance of walking routes, mountain bike trails, a bird of prey centre, an observatory, and a host of other activities. A visit to the historic market town of Hexham is recommended, with stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, galleries, and antiques or take a riverside stroll. The golden beaches on the Heritage Coast are also within easy reach and make a lovely day out. The vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne is also only a 25-minute drive. Shop 41/2 miles, pub and restaurant 3/4 mile.

Stonyfield Cottage is the ideal get away for couples, friends or families, It offers a tranquil and relaxing location with beautiful countryside views. Set on the outskirts of Rochester, within the Northumberland National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated Dark Sky area. The cottage is only a few hundred yards from the A68 up an old Roman road known as Bremenium Way. Rochester is very close to the popular, historical and picturesque village of Otterburn.
At the South-facing rear of the property, there is a large decked area with plenty of outdoor seating, looking out onto an expansive wildlife garden with far-reaching views towards Kielder Forest. The decked area also houses the hot tub where visitors are able to enjoy for the ultimate in relaxation and stargazing. In the winter months they can enjoy the most fabulous wood burning stove and cosy up in front of the large smart TV where you can enjoy Netflix and Amazon.
A sunroom and separate dining room ensure there is plenty of space for two families to spread out, along with a large living room and kitchen/diner. The area around Stonyfield Cottage is rural and unspoilt with lots of outdoor activities to enjoy including plenty of walks along the many footpaths and cycling around Kielder Forest and Kielder Water (which is only 15 miles via the Forest Drive route or a little further should you wish to take the main road route). Walking, Hiking and Fishing are particularly popular around the area. The Scottish Border at Carter Bar is a mere 12 miles so you can easily visit Scotland whilst holidaying at Stonyfield. The border towns of Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh are also easily accessible from here. Of course, you will want to visit Hadrian’s Wall, maybe stop off at Housesteads Roman Fort or why not take a trip over to the Northumberland Heritage Coast, only 32 miles to Warkworth Beach where you can spend a wonderful day exploring castles and beaches up and down this golden coastline.
